Love Sun Rockabilly. Love Brian Setzer, but the two styles are very different so it was with great curiosity that this disc was loaded into the player. The result is quite startling. Solid 1950's sounding Rockabilly with a hint of Brian Setzer for seasoning. Brian wasn't kidding when he says they worked hard to nail the style and feel of the originals. The icing on the cake was hearing the Jordonaires stilling sounding like creamy Irish coffee after all these years. Buy it! There will be no regrets.

I'm not sure what I was expecting from this, but what came out the speakers wasn't it. I think I was expecting to hear the usual injection of Brian's sparkle and fire that he puts into everything. But here he's kept the sound exactly how it was in the original recordings from the late 50's and at first I was quite puzzled. But If you liked the rock n' roll and rockabilly music from that era then you'll like this a lot. Musically it's spot on and it's all extremely authentic. As a consequence I don't actually know why he's done the record if no attempt is made to do anything different, but I don't mind one little bit as after the initial puzzlement, I really like this. I'm guessing Brian is showing us where he started musically and the core of his influences and I for one love this record.

Well chuffed with this. Brings back my memories of catching the bus to Brentford Market on a Sunday to spend my Saturday job earnings on the rockabilly e.p. singles that Charley Records used to release. Some of the best music then and some of the best music now, as stated in the booklet notes. Billy Lee Riley, Warren Smith, Roy Orbison. Forget Iggy Pop, here is Jerry Lee's 'Real Wild Child'. All the authentic sound with the benefit of modern production.

Speaking strictly as a DJ, this album contains some seriously danceable tracks. All are good, but it's Mr. Setzer's interpretations of the lesser known Sun rockabilly artists' songs that stand out - Kenny Parchman's "Get It Off Your Mind" and Gene Simmons "Peroxide Blonde And Hopped-Up Model Ford" are floor-filling jivers.

Yeah, there IS some great Rock&Roll music on this CD. First off my favourites are the fast paced "Put Your Cat Clothes On" ,"Rockhouse" ,"Real Wild Child" "Red Hot" and "Glad all Over" . Setzer can stand back proud of his re-working of these tracks, he really whips up a storm' on " 'Cat Clothes.." Carl Perkins old Classic. This track Boogied down the track first time 'round. It kicked butt. Perkins was having a good day(or Drinkin' some good Whiskey perhaps?) with the good Ol' Boys when he recorded this one back in the 50's. So, I was apprehensive about a re-working of it, but hey, if you cant trust Brain Setzers Rockabilly credentials who can you trust? Setzer does the job right. He nails down the original feeling and adds to it. 'Rockhouse' could ,maybe, have been a bit more 'bass' heavy perhaps ,they captured more of a Bass& Drums heavy sound in the original, it rumbled the floorboards a bit more aggresively, maybe its the hardest Rockin'of Roy Oribson's R&R records. The version here is not inferior as a result. Its only slightly more gentle but its still Rockabilly and has a very tasty lead guitar sound .
I'm 34 yrs old ,so I'm taking a bit of a liberty saying this CD brings back the memories , I dont remember ANY of these tracks first time round (in the 50's) obviously, but, I still have memories of growing up listening to this music. (I probably started buying Stray Cats &Polecats singles and albums around that time too come to think of it!)
I had a double album of Rock&Roll 'Hits' I got real cheap , think it was the old K-Tel label,It had 90% of these songs on it. I was about 10 yrs old, so I've been listening to these original recordings for the best part of 24 years!! These are the first re-recordings/tributes I have ever heard to these songs.

Great modern country album, well worth a listen. Highly recommended.
Takes a bit of time to be delivered by US sellers, worth the wait, for the money saved.
