So hot is is Cooool 14 July 2005

Love Sun Rockabilly. Love Brian Setzer, but the two styles are very different so it was with great curiosity that this disc was loaded into the player. The result is quite startling. Solid 1950's sounding Rockabilly with a hint of Brian Setzer for seasoning. Brian wasn't kidding when he says they worked hard to nail the style and feel of the originals. The icing on the cake was hearing the Jordonaires stilling sounding like creamy Irish coffee after all these years. Buy it! There will be no regrets.

Peach of a disc 8 Dec 2010

Well chuffed with this. Brings back my memories of catching the bus to Brentford Market on a Sunday to spend my Saturday job earnings on the rockabilly e.p. singles that Charley Records used to release. Some of the best music then and some of the best music now, as stated in the booklet notes. Billy Lee Riley, Warren Smith, Roy Orbison. Forget Iggy Pop, here is Jerry Lee's 'Real Wild Child'. All the authentic sound with the benefit of modern production.

I'm not sure what I was expecting from this, but what came out the speakers wasn't it. I think I was expecting to hear the usual injection of Brian's sparkle and fire that he puts into everything. But here he's kept the sound exactly how it was in the original recordings from the late 50's and at first I was quite puzzled. But If you liked the rock n' roll and rockabilly music from that era then you'll like this a lot. Musically it's spot on and it's all extremely authentic. As a consequence I don't actually know why he's done the record if no attempt is made to do anything different, but I don't mind one little bit as after the initial puzzlement, I really like this. I'm guessing Brian is showing us where he started musically and the core of his influences and I for one love this record.
