This is a great quick glimpse at the first 30 years of rock, with many famous faces in every page and a sweet nostalgia throughout. The illustrations are colorful and lively, appropriate to the subject and the writing is often very funny. However the history of rock is almost impossible to summarize, which is why it feels rushed sometimes, and many great artists were hardly given half a page - and the story stops around the 80s.

I do think it's very nice though, especially for a young teenager who wants an introduction to the history of rock. And there are not many similar comic books around, so it's definitely worth a read.

Music. The universal language. Rock 'n' roll, the music of the universe. Put 'em both together, stir in a bit of French bandes déssinés(comic strips to us Yanks) and you get Rock Toons. No longer in print this book tells the story of the music that will never die. You got Jerry Lee Lewis, the Killer! you got Buddy Holly, you got Motown, you got all the greats from the Beatles to the King himself, Elvis. Originaly published in France this book needs updating. The history only goes as far as the eighties but the beat goes on and on. I'm glad I got a copy for myself, the music sounds better now that I understand what it means.
