3.0 out of 5 stars A Little Bit Over-Rated On Here Id Say 11 Nov 2003
Format:Paperback
Okay, dont get me wrong, im a fan of Chris Rock. 'Down to Earth' rests among my dvd collection, and his parts in Dogma and Nurse Betty were great. BUT...this book is not as good as people seem to be making it out to be. Yes, in parts it can be funny..Laugh out loud funny in some parts. But if you have seen films such as Down to Earth and seen his live shows on Paramount or HBO, basically the funniest excerts from the book you will be familiar with. For example, after watching his pay-per-view and his section on 'Black people' and 'Niggas' I was crying with laughter. Sadly, when reading it basically word for word it doesnt emit as much emotion.

For the price it is worth it. Although i suggest you buy his CD's instead or look out for his shows on TV as these will provide you with much more humour.

Oh, and the running joke throughout the book about his part in Im Gonna Git You Sucka! is actually REALLY funny...but dont buy it for that.

5.0 out of 5 stars AND I THOUGHT SEINLANGUAGE WAS FUNNY! 4 Aug 1998
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
That doesnt even begin to compare to Chris Rock's book. I had noticed that Chris Rock became hella famous this year and I always thought of him as hailrious on the reruns of SNL on Comedy Central. My best friend was on the phone w/ me and she started reading me from the book and I will swear to God i almost peed my pants!I had never heard anything that funny! ANd that was just the phone sex part. So I read it and OHMYLORD! Get this book and a new pair of underwear cuz I can almost guarentee you'll wet yourself silly!

3.0 out of 5 stars it's more a transcript 5 Jun 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
'rock this,' wasn't a book, it was a word for word transcript of one of his comedy ablums. for someone as brilliant as he is, i expected more. but, even though i seen his act, i still laugh when i "reread," his book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Upon this Rock, some very funny truth. 22 Oct 1997
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
In this era of "you're a comedian, so why not write a book," Chris Rock represents a departure in the best sense of the word. Leave it to others to make "nice" about wives, babies and other safe stuff, Chris has the conviction to talk about some issues that really matter. His take on the divisions between Black America cut to the heart of the issue in this country. He's not the 90's Eddie Murphy; he's better than that. I read his book then saw George Carlin in person within the week. If you appreciate the irreverance of Carlin (re; advertising, religion, yuppies, etc.) you'll find Rock speaks of similar truths.

5.0 out of 5 stars A guranteed on your ass laugh out loud riot. 23 Aug 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I found this book to be the stand-up comedian anthologie currently out there. If you have ever grown up in a poor urban neighborhood you will really relate and enjoy this book. It is a vast collection of Rock's highly acclaimed stand-up specials and jokes to come. If you enjoy Rock and his style of comedy than this is the book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Comedy Book Ever 3 Aug 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is the best comedy book ever. Rock put the same over the top comedy on paper as he does in his stand up comedy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hillarious !!! 3 Jun 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book was very straight forward and funny; it was the epitome of Chris Rock. People think that comedians can only write one-liner jokes, this man lays it on the line and is straigh-up and just plain crazy with everything ! I never knew about tossed salads until I read his book !

5.0 out of 5 stars FREAKIN GREAT 12 April 1999
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
Chris Rock is the funniest black man alive, he blows Chris Tucker outta the water. He deserves to be in Congress, right along with Denis Leary, Dennis Miller, and George Carlin, only George Carlin should be the president.
