5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious and sweet interracial romance 1 Dec 2006
By Voracious for Books VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Rock star Bryan Spencer needs some peace and quiet to deal with the death of his best friend. He ends up in a small town in Alabama, where he meets black bookstore owner Callie Lawson. Despite the fact that she is the total opposite of the hollywood bimbos he usually goes for, they become friends and then lovers. Can their relationship have a future when they have so little in common and they have to deal with their respective friends and families preconceptions and the media backlash caused by jealous aquaintainces.

I was up until nearly three this morning, because I couldn't put it down. I found it hard to believe this well written and very enjoyable book is the author's first novel. It's a witty, funny and sweet read, definitely one to reccommend to your friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars very enjoyable :) 2 Aug 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I'm fast becoming a die-hard Roslyn Hard Holcomb fan, that's for sure. I've had this book for ages but kept putting off reading it on the back of of the mixed reviews. Bryan and Callie's story is something of a slow burner, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it. I found Callie's hesitation a bit frustrating, but then understood where she was coming from with the celebrity thing. Callie's over-protective father was just scary! I don't know how accurately the book portrays people's reactions to inter-racial relationships in America. But it has to be said that it's tragic when you consider this is the 21st century!!! I'm just glad glad to say that where I come from (Botswana), there's really none of that, and wherever you go you see mixed race couples and VERY few people bat an eyelid; it's the norm! Can't wait to read the sequel, hope it's as sizzling hot and as sweet as this one!

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok 20 Dec 2013

It did take some time to get into the story but I got there in the end! Callie was a bit too indecisive for me - her family or Bryan her family or Bryan - make up ur mind already!!!!! The narratives went on and on outside of the main story, history is cool but not in a romance novel which should have purely focused on developing a plot and keeping to it!!! So yeah! Just ok!!!
