Good pressing of Specialty and Vee-Jay material. For the unitiated, some very disappointing recuts are included, namely Lucille and The Girl Can't Help It, badly arranged and featuring a singer not at the top of game, by any means.

For the always frustrated but determined fan/colector/historian we also find I Don't Know What You've Got But It's Got Me, the 1965 cut with Jimi Hendrix, Billy Preston, and Don Covay, but alas, it's not the rare alternate take but just the same ol' extended "Part One" version.

A notch above the usual reissue of a reissue of a........

Note: this Damon Music Group double-CD appears to be the same content and packaging as "Rip It Up..........".

This CD should be called Rerecorded Rock N Roll roots, almost all his great are rerecorded from the 1960s, the title of the CD is misleading I expected this to be the original recordings and obviously that is not the case. It would have been helpful if Amazon had said in the blurb for this set that it was rerecording's. Don't get me wrong whilst these are not the original records the versions you get are acceptable.

This CD should be placed with the 'Vee-Jay years' CD and the 'Explosive Little Richard': his Okeh Recordings. I found his performances on here to be perfectly, well, Little Richard. In fact, there are some indications of his coming soul recordings on these two CDs, within this compilation. Agreed, the CD is wrongly titled, but that's just an indication of the lack of knowledge, of the compiler/production team (hi-ho).

Beware, if the price seems too good to be true, that's because it is: these are Little Richard's 1964 Vee Jay re-recordings, not the definitive 1950s Speciality originals.
