Bonnie Raitt, backed by Little Feat, gets this Lowell George tribute album off to a great start with a marvellous version of "Cold, cold cold" from 'Sailin Shoes'. She's closely followed by Taj Mahal (is there a tribute CD that Taj isn't on?), Randy Newman and Jackson Browne who all turn in very good versions of excellent Little Feat songs. I'm not really aware of J.D. Souther but his reading of "Roll 'um easy" is tremendous. If I had to pick a favourite track I'd have to plump for "Rocket in my pocket" by the Bottle Rockets (?) and David Lindley, not one of my favourite Little Feat songs but they transform it to a slightly heavy but still funky workout with David Lindley's slide guitar ouststanding. The remaining versions are all good - with this kind of material you'd really have to screw up to produce a bad version and thankfully nobody does. A really good tribute to a really great singer, guitarist and songwriter.
