So, is this yet another greatest hits album which Europe fans will pass by because they already have all the tracks? Well, actually, no it isn't - not quite. Full marks have to be given for not being tempted to call it 'The Final Countdown'. 'Rock the Night' is a title more suited to Europes style. All the singles are included, except 'I'll Cry For You' in which the far superior acoustic version appears. A few surprises too include the brilliant 1986 version of 'Seven Doors Hotel', previously unreleased tracks 'Here Comes The Night', 'Mr Government Man' and 'Long Time Coming'. Also good to see a couple of live tracks make the list too, 'Let The Good Times Rock' and 'Time Has Come'. The surprises don't stop there, the instrumental 'Aphasia' makes a welcome appearance to the double CD. A good measure of (why on earth was it not released as a single) 'Heart Of Stone', 'Scream Of Anger' and 'Yesterday's News' and you have a damn good album.
However there are a few disappointments - to miss the opportunity to include 'Break Free' and more so 'Rainbow Warrior' is a travesty.
Europe fans will be pleased with most of the choices and eighties rock fans will see just how good this band is. I say 'is' because they have reformed and are working on a new album due out sometime this year.
With this collection in mind it's something to look forward to.
