Product Description

One of the earliest attempts to capture the excitement of rock 'n' roll music on film, Rock Rock Rock featured an impressive cast list, including the man who first coined the phrase rock 'n' roll (Alan Freed) and some of the genres early pioneers, including Chuck Berry, Frankie Lymon and Johnny Burnette. The storyline, such as it is, concerns the quest of a teenage girl trying to earn enough money to buy a dress for a school dance, but all that really matters are the performances of the likes of The Moonglows and The Flamingos, among the greatest vocal groups of all time.

About the Director

Featuring tracks from the following artists: Alan Freed, The Moonglows, Chuck Berry, The Flamingos, Jimmy Cavallo and the House Rockers, The Johnny Burnette Trio, La Vern Baker, Cirino and the Bowties and Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers

I don't care about the movie itself but I consider it as a real
cult movie showing an era when Rock & Roll was just starting and kids
were kind of innocent. The "raw" musical interpretations are so
well done by the various artists that, while watching the movie,
you're completely transported to those wonderful good old early
authentic Rock & Roll days. Elvis had just come out with his first
big hit when this was filmed and the "inventor" of the expression
"Rock & Roll" Mr. Alan Freed is an important part of this cult movie,
probably the best one to describe those unforgettable days we lived
through at the age Tuesday Weld made her film debut.

I suppose every collector of the 50's rock'n'roll music is very well familiar with this movie. You do not buy it for the suspense or interesting plot, you just want to see and hear the idols of your innocent early years. As such it is quite OK, but one wishes the picture quality was better. And that is really the problem. I mean you know these songs by heart and even can hear them in HIFI from the CDs or original vinyl at home, but if you buy a movie - it means visuals. And the visuals are quite bad actually. Sorry, but this is why I can not give it more then 2 stars....but, you decide.

what a dress! 18 May 2012

The fashion era and music are what make this movie worth the while. Its an era gone but you can see the fantastic ideas and designs of its time are just so exquisite. Wardrobe in this move really tells you that great style in daily life is a thing of the past. The musical acts are just great, though some are very obscure to us now unless you are an Aficionado of this era! Simple as the acts are they are worth their weight in gold. The mega bucks production of today don't hold a thing on the quality of simple raw talent.
Well what can I say about the film? It is just awful. Barely a story and the acting is strained and forced. Deliberately announced lines make for poor performance. The quality of the footage could be better but it is better than most. The photography is average and the point of it all is practically zero. However, there is a great moment when we learn of the dishonesty of bankers and banking and is a very tell-tale sign of what has become a monstrosity. Its all in the script - hidden in plain sight. How odd.
There is also a very deliberate attempt to "message" the youth of the day to "keep in line" via the songs. Yet through all of the smoke screen of it all Tuesday Weld looks absolutely gorgeous and as I have said the wardrobe design, the styles, are absolutely beautiful. A great nostalgic look at the way we were.
