Oh I got the blues! Thanks to this cracking book! This is a book that comes with a cd that will take you from beginner to a pretty decent level of harmonica playing. I like the way Jon has used a story to teach. The story is about cavemen and how they discovered music and loved making music/sounds. It lightens the process of trying to get a tune out of the harmonica in my opinion. All the music is in tab form so it's easy to understand and there are tabs for songs throughout the book, more so at the back. The book also goes into the harmonica and how it works mechanically ie how a sound is made inside it! I think if you know the inner workings of your harp you will learn how to use it better. The book also is pretty insightful on how to bend a note and make sounds with your mouth as you play to get a differnt sound than the plain note. All very interesting. Still. . . .the book provides you with a lot of information and techniques but it's upto you to practice of course! I can recommend Harptabs.com for tons of free music or sections of music for the harmonica and it's all in the easy to understand tab form, there's loads of lessons on youtube too, just type harmonica lessons into the search bar. I'm now playing Amazing Grace (in the book), Blueberry Hill, 12 bar blues (in the book), You are my sunshine(in the book)and the opening to Love me do! (gotta do some Beatles being a scouser. . .Like!) amongst many others. Getting there slowly but surely but I can definitley recommend this book. It's improved my playing for sure. Orange Blossom Special here I come. . . .
