Fun:
Had to buy this drumkit because the one I had did not support cymbals.
Was it worth the money? Definitely.

It took some time to get used to, but man am I having a blast now.
Most of the old downloadable songs for Rock Band have Pro Drums charted (that means the cymbals are charted correctly) so you'll enjoy playing through old songs in a completely new way.
There's also a plug for a second kick-pedal if you're into that, unfortunately the creators of the game have not charted double pedal notes in old or new DLC nor the songs on the disc for RB3.

The kit itself is sturdy and doesn't move around on the floor as much as my old Rock Band 1 kit.
Some users have reported loose cymbals, but I did not encounter this issue.
Had the kit been quieter I would have given it 5 stars, but alas, that is not the case.
Prepare to turn the volume up so that your guitar/bass/keyboard buddies can actually hear the song.

Some notes:

- The cymbals can be configured, a single cymbal, two cymbals, three, height, placement, etc.
- The kick-pedal is metal/steel-inforced like the pedal from the RB2 kit.
- Buy some batteries, this one uses 3 at a time (although it doesn't seem to drain quickly)

In conclusion, playing Rock Band 3 with cymbals is a must and this kit does the job nicely.
I hope it lasts as long as my first kit, if not longer.

Fun:
Setting Up - 4/5

The main drumkit is very simple to set up, and only takes a few mintues. But adding the cymbals posed a problem. The clamp which is attached to the legs of the drumkit cannot be tightened enough for the hi-hat (Yellow one). This was another problem for professional drummers such as myself, as every time I hit the cymbal it falls to rest on the kit. I had to resort to using duct tape to keep the cymbal held up.

Response to hits - 3/5

Both the main drumkit and the cymbals have issues here. In fast, repeated rhythms and drum fills, the drumkit misses some notes even if you hit all notes perfectly. On Expert Pro, this can cause you to fail very easily on difficult songs.

Overall - 4/5

Even with the problems, the game is still playable and is still extremely fun. But if you are a pro drummer or hate being told you're wrong, then this kit could cause a lot of frustration.

Fun:
This is a review about the drumkit itself, rather than the Rock Band 3 elements that use it (which would be better suited to a review of the actual game).

Anyone familiar with the pads from previous Rock Band kits will see that the main four pads are pretty much in the same positions as before. The three additional cymbals have some (albeit limited) scope for customisation in terms of positioning and the tightness of the cymbals themselves (for example, if you wanted the cymbal to tilt forward then you simply don't screw on the coloured wingnut too tightly).

Although it does allow for a second pedal, I have yet to test this as I have not found another pedal that works (even the one that I borrowed from my existing drumkit that came with The Beatles Rock Band didn't seem to do anything when I plugged it into the spare socket).

While the premise of Pro Drums seems fun, there are issues with this kit that I find a bit of a problem:
(1) it can be very easy to catch the underside of a cymbal (especially the left- and right-most ones) when raising the stick from hitting the red or green pads), which causes a loss in note streak;
(2) I'm not entirely convinced that the pedal is as responsive as can be required for more challenging songs (it seems as if it's slightly better than the one that came with the Beatles Rock Band drumkit, but it's still not brilliant);
(3) the rebound on the pads is fairly good, although there's still room for improvement here; and
(4) while the kit is relatively fine for simpler songs, more difficult songs are a bit of a problem using this kit because the general responsiveness is so questionable that I found myself going red on a frequent basis, even on those songs where I can normally get a respectable score.

While Harmonix have done a brilliant job with the Rock Band series, I wish they would use someone a bit better than MadCatz for their peripherals. I can't help thinking that anyone wishing to explore Pro Drums should pay a bit more for a dedicated MIDI-compatible electronic drumkit and get the MIDI Pro Adaptor suitable for their console; I get the feeling this would be more responsive and would probably be better able to cope with more punishment. I wasn't expecting miracles from this kit, but a bit more responsiveness is essential for rhythm games such as Rock Band, and anyone wishing to explore the Pro Drums in Rock Band 3 cannot use the Pro Drums if they are using a Guitar Hero drumkit (the option will be ghosted and restrict them only to Core Drums).

I myself have already had an issue with the red pad seeming to not respond for on-and-off periods. Given that I only bought this kit in February 2012 and it is now April 2012 this is very poor. It's just such a shame, because I really wanted to recommend this and I do not feel that I can recommend it particularly highly because of its slight design issues and its responsiveness issues that even calibrating did not seem to adequately improve.

Unless you plan on upgrading with goodwoods, or the like, don't get this - it's very unresponsive and has bad rebound.
