I decided to risk buying the Roccat Valo keyboard after reading a whole load of negative reviews. Gladly however after using it for a few days I've got to say I really like it.
The Valo is a big keyboard but looks fantastic, sleek with no cheap plastics. It took me a while to get used to typing on it, but once I did I found it really comforatble to use for long periods of time both in gaming and general use. The keys are soft with not too much travel which I like.
The Valo's 2 main selling points are the LCD and the masses of macro keys. The LCD on the top right is good but has limited uses: Date and Time, CPU + RAM usage and Email, thats about it. As for the macro keys, useful, but there's so many I doubt I could ever remember what I've got them all set up as.
Its got a couple of big negatives against it. As people have mentioned, the backlight capacitor produces a loud whining sound. I managed to solve this by turning the backlight off, not a problem for me as I dont need the keyboard lit, but this could be a huge problem for a lot of people.
Also the Roccat software crashes most of the time when I try to make changes to the LCD screen and macro settings.
I prefer the Valo over all my previous gaming keyboards, Logitech G11 + 15's, Microsoft Sidewinders and Merc Stealth. It is good, but only if you can live with its flaws.

When turned on the key back lights result in a horrible high pitched whining noise. I had heard about this but had also heard that Roccat assured customers that this defect wouldn't be present in all future batches - Not the case. This noise is horrible and I couldn't imagine having it on all the time. Had it out of the box for all of 5 minutes before packing it back up and emailing Amazon.

Great keyboard, the customization this keyboard offers is great, really sits amongst the G-series of logitech keyboards, there are a few initial bugs that i experienced when i first put the keyboard in, although they have been fixed but require you to download the latest drivers, and the inability to use it with dos also is a minor setback but overall the backlight, number of keys, profile and aesthetic qualities, not to mention the software to use the keyboards additional functions more than make up for that.

ROCCAT Valo DON'T BUY!
This keyboard may look good but it isn't. Its severely overpriced and in the time I have had which is about 5 days its broken twice. Do NOT buy. its a waste of time and money

Poor poor poor
The keyboard is great, when it works. As soon as I hit caps it would freeze. Spent a lot of time trying to contact Roccat suupport who are usually great. Read more
