Product Description

Feature-length sequel to the 1980s anime saga, continuing the story where the TV series 'Robotech: New Generation' (1985) left off. In the year 2044 AD, the human race has reached out to the stars through the miracle of Robotechnology, but not without bringing intergalactic war upon the Earth itself. Heroes will die and allegiances will shift. But in the midst of combat, perhaps peace will spring up through the charred remains of battered history.

I'm not sure how I would rate this movie if I had not seen the Robotech saga. As a standalone sci-fi animation it, as some one else has already said, strictly by the numbers.

The story brings together characters from all three story arcs from Harmony Gold's Robotoch series. Rick Hunter is seen, as opposed to mentioned, Dana Sterling is actually drawn appropriately, and Scott is back, complete with Ariel.

The movie starts from just before the attack on Reflex Point, but from the view of the Mars force, not the resistance, then proceeds onwards in a very typical Robotech type story, though with less music than normal. It's nothing special, but reasonably well done. The animation suffers from being late 1990s computer art, but that's still a huge improvement on the second and third parts of the original story. The plot is also a lot less cringe worthy.

Being Harmony Gold it means English language only, no subs, but then it was possibly commissioned by them as it has no association with the 'real' Macross arc.

In summary, if you are a Robotech fan then get this, while nothing special it's well done and entertaining. If you're not, then don't.

4.0 out of 5 stars Could have been better 22 Dec 2011
Format:DVD
Robotech the Shadow Chronicles is based during the end battle of the New Generation and after the Battle where a new enemy called the children of the Shadow attack them.

It is really just of half of the story because a second anime film was supposed to be made but the Live Action Project(which is now dead in the water) stopped it. It only runs for about 1 hour and 20 mins and after it ends it leaves you wanting more. There are new and old characters such as Scott and Louie but the new characters don't really have much of an impact as the old ones do, the voice acting is great and the special effects blend well with the animation.

The extras on the disc is the making of which is split into a couple of parts where they get the fans reaction to Robotech, interviews with the voice actors about their characters and then people from Harmony Gold talk about how the film was made. There are some trailers from other products that Revelation Films sell.

I would have given it a 3 but the extras made it better.
