Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Feisty, moody and filled with personality, Robosapien is a humanoid with attitude that comes to life at your command and performs amazing tasks. Using the ergonomic remote control, you can command Robosapien to perform up to 67 pre-programmed functions including pick-up, throw, high-five, whistle, dance and three different karate moves.

Robosapien is fully programmable. He can perform a programmed chain of commands in any combination of moves that you select. For example, you can create your own dance sequence or program him to walk straight, turn left and give your buddy a high five.

The fully articulated Robosapien fluid biomechanical movements and pendulum walking motion makes his movements appear more human than robotic. This attribute separates Robosapien from less sophisticated entertainment robots on the market. Robosapien's impressive flexibility is evident as he walks in two different speeds, dances and easily handles 180 degree turns.

Robosapien comes equipped with two types of three pronged grippers, ribbed for increased traction. He can pick up objects such as cups, socks, pencils and other small light objects.

Sure to keep you on your toes, Robosapien reacts to both touch and sound signals from his environment. His Interactive Reflex System (IRF) uses a total of six sensors strategically located throughout his body to detect obstructions. Sensors in his feet allow him to recognize and avoid obstacles without help, as he moves backwards or forwards with ease. Select one of his sensor programs and Robosapien will respond to a sharp sound or to touch.

    Robo Great 10 Mar 2005

    Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
I had this as a present at christmas and was completely amazed, ok I know it's only a toy but there is just something about the fact that it's a robot.

It can take a little bit of time to get to grips with old Robo but once in the swing the remote controls become very simple to use and operating Robo becomes a real joy. The experience becomes even better when you start learning to program the little critter putting multiple moves together and also getting him to react to touch and sounds in different ways, this is thanks to noise and touch sensors in the hands and feet. He is a bit pricey I have to be fair but all in all I'd say that Robo is well worth the money and will keep you occupied and coming back again and again. After a while, this little critter stops becoming a toy and becomes a small caveman friend always willing to cheer you up or make you laugh, your friends will also be impressed and children will be mesmerised by it and at the end of the night you can turn him off and listen to him snore.

This is a fantastic bit of kit, the only problem I did have with Robo was the packaging which took me an age to get off, does also drain batteries pretty rapidly so make sure you stock up. All in all I wouldn't be without Robo or Gruber as I've named mine!

Had ours a few years. Amusing demos including dancing to own disco music, pre-programmed compilations of moves, e.g. pick up, throw, karate chop, a handful of sounds including wolf-whistle, burp, burp from the other end, hi-yah, oops, etc. Infrared remote control like a TV's, mostly three functions per button, easy to visibly switch between functions (no light, green light, orange light on control). Can use in real-time with remote control (walk, turn, turn on spot, arm movements, tilt at waist etc. plus all pre-programmed moves), or program six consecutive moves (including the pre-programmed combinations of moves) - each different program triggered by making a noise with the robot in `listen' ('sentry')mode or touching right hand/heel sensors or left hand/heel sensors (i.e. three different programmes at a time). Also a master program of 14 commands initiated from the remote control. Very, very durable, amazing rotation of arms, pick-up tricky as objects need to be well placed to remain in robot's grasp as `fingers' close and arms lift, can't carry much more than a sock with arms up if not to go round in circles, limited walking ability on soft carpeting. Actually, mine doesn't do a good straight line anyway, but I don't mind. Here's the manual so you know what it does: www.wowwee.com/robosapien/manual.html. Durable fun and well worth it for the money in my opinion, a tad short of stunning given today's high expectations, but certainly has the air of a `real' robot about it. I would guess an 8-12 year old male would be totally over the moon, older and adults intrigued to play a week or two before exhausting immediate possibilities and returning now and again. A very good product, good value, has a personality and deserves to be bought on its own merits.
