We recently bought a separate Roberts digital radio from Amazon, an eco-one where you can use normal and rechargeable batteries, and recharge the batteries in the radio from the mains. The radio is great and that led us to choose the Dreamtime clock radio. The Dreamtime is very good quality for the price - clear sound, we like the dimmable display, and I have no problems with 'humming' sounds that other reviewers have mentioned - unlike my previous 'Logik' clock radio that this one is replacing.
There are a lot of buttons and setting the alarm etc. takes a bit of getting used to, but you can set two different alarms and have one for weekdays only, and the other for weekends which is useful. My only moan about the radio alarm is that whilst the alarm fades in (good - it doesn't startle you awake), the volume then climbs to a setting of 20 (bad - far too loud) and you can't adjust this when you set the alarm. What's the point of waking you up gently with a faded alarm if the volume then climbs to an uncomfortable volume?! I sent an e-mail to Roberts and they suggested that I set the 'normal' playing volume to my comfortable volume (about 10) and then when the alarm goes off, reach over and hit the power button twice i.e. turn it off then on again, this will disable the alarm and turn the radio back on at my desired volume. I've learnt where the on/off button is but it's a pain to have to do this within a few seconds of waking up each morning, if I don't want to be blasted awake!
If you like your radio alarm loud, this is the one for you. If you don't this is an inconvenience that you might want to avoid - shame, because otherwise it's a good unit.
