4.0 out of 5 stars Mostly just what I wanted. 13 April 2011
Colour Name:Black|Verified Purchase
I wanted another DAB set with alarm/sleep functions in addition to decent quality adjustable audio output, and settled on this as the most likely to provide that without going to the high end PURE sets, which seem to have a mixed reliability record among buyers.

I already have a Gemini 21 so knew what these roberts sets sound like - this was a big factor in my choice. This set is far better value in terms of provided spec. than the Gemini.

I'll get the negatives out of the way first...

1 - without batteries, the radio is a bit top heavy and tips over too easily for my liking. Fitting a set of alkalines fixes this.
2 - settings for alarm etc are deeply nested in the menu system, only settable with multiple button presses.
3 - the scrolling marquee with programme info moves very slowly; it's painful to read it.
4 - I don't like how the carry handle can't swivel down the front of the radio.
5 - not keen on the two chromed-plastic main control discs. The chrome is slippery to touch; normal upstand knobs would have been better, or get rid of the chrome.
6 - once tuned to all available DAB signals it's not possible to edit out unwanted stations, which you might want to do if you've used the set in another part of the country where other stations are broadcast. To refresh the station list it needs a full reset, only available via the menu system, with a retune. This won't bother users who take the radio away on holiday.

And that's it for -ives really.

5.0 out of 5 stars Roberts hits the spot. 4 Aug 2011
Colour Name:Black|Verified Purchase
I bought this radio because of past experience with Roberts radios. My first was bought in 1978 and is now with my eldest daughter. Used everyday and still performs. My second is a DAB RD78. I have this one in the bedroom. The Ecologic I bought because it can be used free of mains electricity. I can take it in the garden, bathroom wherever. The treble/bass control is a nice feature. I mostly listen to "voice" radio so can adjust 'til the audio has a natural sound. It comes into it's own with music stations. Beautiful deep bass. Roberts has a reputation for a rich sound and this has been my experience with all three radios. Used with headphones it will amaze you.
I also like the fact that you can preset 10 stations. Six never seems enough somehow. Contrary to a previous contributor I like the volume/tuning "disks". Keeps the top of the radio flush. You don't have to worry about knocking the controls. Great also if you cant grip. It just needs the slightest touch with one finger.
When choosing DAB radios it's between Pure and Roberts. After listening to several models of both brands I find Pure has the more clinical sound, Roberts has the warmer, easier to listen to sound. Whilst doing my research pre-sale I also found that Pure seems to have more problems.
The Roberts has lived up to my expectations. It's ticked all the boxes and I'm very pleased with my purchase.
Would I buy another. Absolutely.

Purchased this to replace previous roberts radio, great value for money, two speakers instead of the one mono one and the sound is excellent. Would recommend try it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Roberts ecologoc 7 7 Mar 2011
By Tony
Colour Name:Black
Very easy to setup, nice tone, especially since it has the ability to adjust the treble and bass controls. Better than average reception, as it picks up Dab signals where other radios have failed miserably.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent DAB/FM radio 4 Oct 2010

Roberts Ecologic 7 DAB / FM RDS Stereo Digital Radio with Up to 150 Hours Battery Life - White
First of all I listen to it when I go to bed, when I have a bath and intend to take it camping. I use it on rechargeable NiMH 10000mAh batteries and have had to recharge them once.

Likes: Get all the DAB & FM stations I am used to.
Nice sound. Bass and treble can be adjusted.
Alarm can be set for daily, weekdays, weekends or just once.
Display backlight can be dimmed or switched off.

Dislikes: Sleep function has to be set up each time . Not very good if your in bed and the radio has gone off before your asleep. Would be better if it had 1 button press to activate it (keeping the same timer) instead of using the menu system with multiple button presses to select, activate and set the length of time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Roberts Ecologic 7 21 May 2012
By Mrs B
Colour Name:Black|Verified Purchase
This is a superb radio - it is easy to operate and has a lovely mellow tone - I bought it in order to listen to Radio 4Extra as I wake in the night and get depressed listening to all the trouble and strife on the World Service and I don't like local radio or Radio 2. This radio has resolved that problem. Apart from the idiosyncrasy of my listening habits I can recommend this radio as being a 'serious piece of kit' it's great!! ( Also excellent free delivery from Amazon and helpful advice from Roberts helpline with a slight problem I had due to my misreading of the instruction booklet)
