Having done some digging around on the tinterweb and reading endless reviews of Pure, Sony, Goodmans and Roberts products, I eventually chose this one...

I liked the look of the radio from the start, the 2 speaker layout and centrally mounted controls gives it a nice symmetrical feeling and the controls are very easy to use.

The tuning and setup was very easy, I switched the unit on and it proceeded to tune itself to DAB stations.

The sound quality is excellent, in fact quite amazing from such small speakers.

Having an analogue style rotary volume control instead of a stepped button arrangement is also a nice touch allowing one to turn the volume down to a very low level if required.

The display is big and clear and shows all relevant information at the touch of a button.

I haven't used the "Favourite" function yet, but if you do have a particular favourite station, you can set it on this button and if someone else tunes to another station, your favourite is easily retrieved.

The lack of presets could be considered a disadvantage, however, if the radio is used as a portable for which it is designed, i.e. in a caravan around the country, then the station choice changes per area. Therefore, your presets may not work. This said, the tuning is very simple and easy to use, and it's always nice to see what stations you have available.

The built in battery charger is a touch of genius, never have to scrabble around for replacement batteries as, when installed, the rechargeables are kept topped up at all times ready for action.

Overall, a fantastic product, very well thought out. Excellently engineered & manufactured.

Well done Roberts, a top quality product.

This is a great radio if you need to be able to run from batteries sometimes but can use the mains at other times. In addition, it can use either alkaline or NiMH batteries. It is useful to have the battery charger built-in.
I was pleasantly surprised at its sensitivity - the aerial position is not as critical as other DAB radios that I have used.

Nice solid radio with good sound. Picks up more stations than my DAB clock radio or my DAB Stereo so very happy.
Amazon recommend buying this radio with a pair of duracell batteries well that's not much use as it uses 4 Batteries.

I needed (wanted) a new radio to use in my garage - my old one was a wind-up FM jobbie that the kids bought years ago. Aerial snapped off, intermittent reception, bit of a faff having to wind it up every thirty minutes or so, no Radio 6, Planet Rock etc.

I had a clear idea of what I needed.
1/ DAB
2/ Battery & mains powered
3/ Compact size

And that was it !! - Everything on top of that was a bonus. Trawled through the myriads on offer, Sony, Roberts, Pure etc., read the reviews & the specs & found that there was massive variation in what you were getting.

So why this one ?
1/ Battery & mains powered
2/ The ability to recharge the batteries internally - big bonus
3/ Stereo
4/ Aux connector meaning you can plug in your i-pod (or other choice of mp3 player)
5/ Preset modes

So how is it in the flesh ? Compact, fairly rugged feel, plugged it & charged it for about five hours - it will only charge when it's switched off. Set it to scan & it immediately found all the stations I wanted (& many I wasn't bothered about). Set the station pre-sets - as other reviewers have mentioned, it has only one "favourite" button, however, you can "tick" your favourite stations so that they are the only ones that show on the display, you can then scroll through these using the tuning wheel & press it to select the one you want. You can temporarily de-select the pre-sets so can access all the stations available. As I only switch between half a dozen stations, this works brilliantly - I've not even bothered setting the "favourite" button. Scrolling info (which can be selected) over two lines - this will "fade" after a few seconds, meaning that it's difficult to read in a dark corner, but not really a problem.

Clean lines with a smart black laquer look. (It also comes in white.) Easy to set up, during the first time start it scans for channels and does this for you. Also can be scanned manually. Crystal clear DB sound and the channel selector is crisp. Battery charger takes about seven hours for full charge, so pretty slow compared to top end chargers on the market. If you need quick charging for batteries you can always buy a separate charger. Use the mains lead in the house, this will save on batteries. The lead also doubles as the battery charger when the radio button is switched to the 'off' position. IMPORTANT, Remember to set the small switch inside the battery compartment for rechargeable batteries and back again if you decide to switch to using normal 'disposable' batteries. Stereo sound and lots of features on this radio not always found on more expensive portable players, this and a FM band too. I'm very pleased with this purchase which represents very good value for money from Amazon. Recommended to anyone who needs a good 'around the house' radio/music player, it would be too big to lug about as a personal radio, but it does remain portable.
