Welcome to my author biography page. I hope that what you read here will help you decide whether you should buy a copy of 'The eBay Business Handbook', personally I would pop to my local library and borrow a copy first - no point in spending money on something you don't need!
As I update this page it is almost 5 years since I left my job as an Account Manager with BT, happy years, but 24 was enough for me. Since that time I have and still do make my living on eBay. eBay changes all the time and I learn more about it each year, when things change signifficantly a new edition of 'The eBay Business Handbook' is released, the 2010 edition should be published around May time. Each new edition includes all the stuff I have learnt since the last time, all the mistakes, tricks of the trade and hot tips.
Unlike many who use eBay I have opted for a more relaxed pace of life and manage my workload to match my life demands. I have experienced my fair share of early starts and stress, no more thankyou. The only exception to this is Christmas which is bonkers, the other 9 months are quite enjoyable.
If you would like to check out my eBay site, my ID is Mollybol.
Since the first book was published in 2006 I have written a free weekly newsletter 'The eBay bulletin', you can read all 170+ back issues and sign up for a copy at www.ebaybulletin.co.uk. The bulletin picks up where the book leaves off and tracks my day to day adventures on the site as well as a regular Q&A section - "Ask Molly". Put the kettle on first as there is a lot to read through.
Here are just a few of the regular questions I am asked.
Q - Is it true that you don't get up intil 9am?
A - Yes, and it is only that early because 'myHermes' arrive to collect my parcels.
Q - Do you really drink that much coffee?
A - Yes, I run a traditional house, coffee at 11am and afternoon tea at 4pm. Everything stops and any kids that are about will drop everything and sit down for half a hour - a rarity in modern families.
Q - Can you really become a millionaire on eBay?
A - Sure, but expect to work very long hours, spend all your money on stock, have zero social life and pack almost non-stop. You should be very close within 4 years.
Q - Should I buy your book?
A - Check to see if a friend has one first and read theirs. If you want a personal view of the site and how it is used by one trader, i.e. me, then it might be worth the investment, I would sign up for my weekly newsletter first, you will soon get an idea of the style of writing you should expect.
Q - Where do I get my stock?
A - I am asked this a dozen times a week and there is no easy answer. I can only tell you what I do and that is to take advantage of whatever comes my way. I do use several wholesalers, eSources.co.uk worked well for me along with local market traders who supply me to this day. Check out eBay for badly sold items and the wholesale category. I am a big fan of bootsales and auctions, loads of bargains to be had here. The High Street is a great source of stock, look for special offers, 'gift with purchase', sales and remainder shops.
