Product Description

Synopsis

Robert Bateman's skill at depicting a marvellous variety of birds and mammals within beautifully rendered landscapes has made him one of the most acclaimed wildlife artists in the world today. A prominent spokesman for the environment, he has donated paintings and prints that have raised over a million pounds to help preserve wildlife habitats and protect endangered species. The focus of this book is on Bateman the painter and the conservationist. In the book's opening text section, author Rick Archbold describes how Bateman's development as both an artist and naturalist led him to an acute awareness of the fragility of our environment and why it must be preserved. Then, with full-colour plates, the book goes on to showcase more than 130 Bateman paintings. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

an artist in nature 9 Feb 2012

I love picture books, especially those related to nature and animals. For me, Robert Bateman is one of the greatest contemporary artists. His drawings are extremely detailed, and enchant you. A book that should definitely be in your library.

Full of interesting background info on what made Robert the master of wildlife art that he is, wonderful images of his paintings and comments on them by the artist.
Wildlife art at its best 24 Nov 2007
By James A. Lewis - Published on Amazon.com
This was purchased to replace my copy which I loaned out too many times and did not return. I consider Bateman to be the finest artist of wildlife now living. This illustrates his orientation as an excellent landscape illustrator and transition to painting the animal or bird as a subject, instead of an afterthought.
ROBERT BATEMAN: AN ARTIST IN NATURE 22 Dec 1996

An excellent book! I was amazed by Berman's amazing paintings and sketches of wildlife and, being an artist myself, found Berman's commentaries most enlightening. If you are an art buff or an artist, of wildlife or not, you must have this book! -- Rachel K. Clar
