From Amazon.co.uk

Robbie the Reindeer is as short as many of the made-for-TV classics that have preceded it. However, so much action, zippy dialogue and witty visual puns have been packed into its 29-minute running time that you'd swear it was longer. The content of the film, like many new animations and cartoons, is geared slightly in favour of older audiences, because of its sexual innuendos and adult comedy, but the kids will love the slapstick comedy and loveable characters. Robbie's father is another stop-motion favourite, Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and pop is keen to see his loveable--but lazy--son follow in his famous hoof prints. The adult theme continues in the shape of the storyline, which was actually inspired more by Rocky than by Rudolph. As in Rocky, there's a supportive female (Donner) and a crusty trainer (Old Jingle). Together they help Robbie get in shape for the Reindeer Games, where he'll have the chance to show Santa whether he has the right stuff or not. Fans of Aardman Animations should appreciate the detailed animation and clever humour. The cream of Britain's comic crop provides the voices, including Jane Horrocks as Donner. Robbie Williams narrates the story, and Mark Knopfler provides the music. --Kathleen C Fennessy, Amazon.com

Product Description

Robbie the Reindeer (voiced by Ardal O'Hanlon) arrives at the North Pole, ready to take his place as navigator on Santa's Christmas sleigh team. However, Robbie is soon plagued by doubt regarding his ability, and sets out to regain his self-respect and the admiration of his team-mates. This festive animated tale also features the voices of Jane Horrocks, Steve Coogan, Caroline Quentin and Harry Enfield, and features a script co-written by 'Blackadder' writer Richard Curtis.

4.0 out of 5 stars As entertaining as Wallace and Grommit any day! 22 Mar 2001

If you enjoy Wallace and Grommit then give this video a try. An entertaining and well made animation film. Enjoyable at anytime of the year but excellent at Christmas. An added bonus for Robbie Williams fans of his rendition of come fly with me.

An excellent buy for young and old alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll want to see Robbie again and again 19 Nov 2001
By A Customer
Format:DVD
If you like comedy, you'll laugh. And if "Karate Kid" is anywhere back there in your memories, you'll more likely be rolling on the floor (your kids will laugh at you --and that's funny). You will be touched. The music keeps up with the comedy, and the characters have a genuine depth I've seen in "The Adventures of Wallace and Grommit", but with a faster, more cheery mood overall. Children may need to be told (by you) that Robbie is Rudolph's son, as the arch villian refuses to allow anybody in the story to say his name --narrators included-- but the story is unbeatable. If you do not buy this DVD, you are wasting your money on something else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant !! 8 Dec 2000

Format:DVD
The animation in this 30 minute show is excellent. It was first screened by the BBC last Christmas (1999) and I missed it then.

Made up for it now by getting this on DVD. It is worth every penny.

Lots of laughs - good old BBC and Comic Relief
