Reviews

Robbie Coltrane has set himself a challenge to take a road trip across a Britain that we don't normally see. The route is from Scotland to the tip of Cornwall, stopping off at various locations - all on the scenic 'B' roads.

4.0 out of 5 stars B Road Britain. Robbie Coltrane 27 Feb 2009
Oh! the days of motoring past! A delightful DVD by the fantastic Robbie Coltrane, on the quiet roads of Britain (well some of them anyway). Robbie takes a trip from London to Glasgow using only the B roads. He takes in along the way, specially selected towns and villages, noted for their eccentricity and quaint customs! He discovers for instance, where the expression "Cock & Bull story" originated, or at least I think so!
He does all this in a vintage 1950s Jaguar soft top (I'm really jealous!) So, next time I go north, I'm going to try the B roads before they all disappear.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gem of a series. 11 Feb 2009
Verified Purchase
Robbie is a masterly presenter, that is to say he is obviously not a professional TV presenter. He is clearly making this documentary because he loves the whole concept, and his delight in the whole thing is infectious. He has a nice way of confiding his thoughts and observations in you the viewer, as if it was just you and him on the journey. His clever natural wit is enjoyable, but never detracts from the detail, which is surprisingly well researched and presented. There is none of the dumb photography that ruins so many a good documentary, it is brilliantly shot and the sound quality is excellent. It would be difficult not to be interested by the subject matter, and the glorious scenery. Britain is still, down the B roads at least, beautiful eccentric and fascinating. Well worth the modest price.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great romp through rural England 20 Oct 2009
Fans of Robbie Coltrane and/or great scenery won't be disappointed with this entertaining program. Coltrane injects his brand of humor into what is also an informative look at what travel through the U.K. was like before major motorways. Car buffs will also enjoy the fine vintage Jaguar XK 120 that serves as Coltrane's mode of transportation.
Equally entertaining are the stops he makes along the way in the villages and hamlets that still practice old traditional festivals and events.
All in all, it's an absorbing blast into the past with a likeable and entertaining host. I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fab Car 31 Jan 2009
Robbie Coltrane's B-Road Britain - Complete Series
This was a very entertaining DVD. Humour, Scenery and that FAB car! What more could you want. Robbie talks to some interesting people, shows some quirky details about the country, and meanders! Just as I like to do. The car was the best thing for my husband, although he thoroughly enjoyed this DVD, as did I. More, much more, PLEASE. Highly recommended. AND you can get it very cheaply on Amazon.

This is enjoyable but I was quite interested in the route he took but it does not really show a map of the journey.
I thought that this was a shame but apart from that - happy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as he was in Cracker!
I've watched it all and wouldn't give it great marks - its not up there with the really great ones like Coast and the History of the British Isles, but its OK'ish.
