Book Description

7 Sep 2006

Many of these stores are now so famous from film and television adaptations that they need no introduction. Roald Dahl is well known as a master of the macabre and the unexpected in the tradition of Saki, and this volume does not disappoint.

He began his literary career by writing about his own experiences in the RAF during World War II but soon developed this talent in a series of short-story collections. He is perhaps even more celebrated as an author of children's books, but the best of his short stories represent a claim for him to be numbered among the most remarkable story writers of the 20th century.

The present volume includes for the first time all the stories in chronological order as established by Dahl's biographer, Jeremy Treglown, in consultation with the Dahl estate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Roald Dahl Collection 13 Jan 2011
Format:Hardcover
This is the first complete collection of Roald Dahl's (adult) short stories. They have been arranged in chronological order by his biographer, Jeremy Treglown, who was also Dahl's biographer:

Roald Dahl: A Life: A Biography

As with all Everyman collection books, the books is a pleasure to read (in terms of the quality of the paper, etc.).

Dahl's short stories are hilariously funny and it is a shame he is not better known for them - he is overshadowed by his children's work. I can highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crackerjack 12 Jan 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I bought this particular edition many years ago, as a school student. Sadly, time took its toll on that particular copy. After recently watching Matilda on TV, I was reminded
of Dahl's literary and creative genius and decided to re-acquire this volume. The book itself, is an Everyman library edition, very well bound and printed and a pleasure to read. This has ALL of Dahl's work for adults. A copy worth adding to one's collection, whether you are a Dahl fan or simply a lover of great literature well presented. Five stars all the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars A BOOK THAT BE MUST READ! 24 Aug 2014
Format:Hardcover
A most excellent tome of beautifull and interesting stories. Although Dahl has an unique style, his short stories are reminiscent of those of Ray Bradbury. I cannot give this collection anything other than the highest of accolades!
