Anyone interested in this 1972 album should realize that this is not about instrumental virtuosity, but more about lots of wah and fuzz, thumping drums and driving bass. The only connection with Hendrix is that this is a 3-piece with a lot of fuzz and wah, except for some rare moments the guitarist's playing is nothing like the bluesy Hendrix. But Noel never seemed to be impressed by virtuosity, I remember when I read his autobiography being surprised that he believed Hendrix's success lay in his voice! He himself was a reluctant bassist, the guitar had always been his first love until joining Hendrix's band, but he has that ability which comes through the sheer amount of time spent playing, the level which most people with two hands would reach after 5 years incessant playing. Still, although I enjoy the virtuosos like Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc, I enjoy this album a lot for some reason. I like Noel's accented, echoey English pop-rock vocals, the guitar has a great, strong tone, and although their arrangements are pretty simple, they all have a drving energy to them which makes the album compulsive listening. It's not prog, it's not hard rock, probably the best label would be late heavy psychedelic rock.

Noel Redding (Jimi Hendrix Experience) with guitarist Rod Richards (formerly of Rare Earth) and drummer Leslie Sampson these guys were in top shape and they just got together and played like there was no tomorrow.
This album takes you on an unforgettable adventure through forgivable hippie country on a sabbathy deathcamp freight train. A gem among wah-wah wizardry! Nice and i think the only one original cd reissue by Free Records and great sound quality at that! Beware of the bootleg versions flooding the market!

Had this been the new release from Colour Haze or some other neo-psychedelic band I'm sure it would have been met with the highest praise. Cause this is power trio at it's best.

Wonderful wah-wah driven lead courtesy of Rod Richards (Rare Earth), the thunderous bass of the legendary Noel Redding, it might be fair to call this album his finest moment as a bass player. And over-the-top drums from Les Sampson. All in all a rather un-commercial and very trippy affair. Titles like "Mushroom Man" and "Spaceship Earth" really tells it all.

The compositons may lack a little in the originality department, and Noel isn't as good a singer as he is on the bass, but all in all a must for lovers of psyched out trio rock at it's heaviest and grooviest.
