Book Description

Kron Darkbow has fled the city of Bond, along with healer mage Randall Tendbones and professional duelist Adara Corvus. Everywhere they turn are enemies. With a price on their heads, old foes on their trail, and dangers waiting for them along the road and in every village, it seems nowhere is safe.

Even the goal of their travels offers no peace, for the group rides to the land of Kobalos where Randall must face that nation’s Lord Verkain, the alleged Dark King of the North.

But before Kron, Randall and Adara can make their way to Kobalos, there are demons to avoid, monsters to slay, assassins to defeat, and the country of East Ursia to pass, a land where Adara is wanted and wizards such as Randall are put to death.

Then there are the Prisonlands, Kron’s old stomping grounds, where the prisoners are now armed and free, and are taking their vengeance on all who cross their path.

"Once again, Ty Johnston has written a winner. ... As always, the writing style of this author makes each of his books a joy to read." -- Lauralynn Elliott, author of THE GNOME

"My reaction to this book was similar to my reaction to City of Rogues. The story is irresistible. It drew me in completely. There was no question that I would keep reading ..." -- Brent Nichols, author of LORD OF FIRE

"Johnston is also known as a horror writer, and his talents there serve him well in some of the darker aspects of the story. The last third of the second book in particular, is quite chilling ..." -- Jesse Flohrs, Fantasy Faction

More About the Author

Ty Johnston was born in Kentucky in the United States. After earning a degree in journalism, he spent the next two decades as a newspaper editor. During that time he wrote numerous short stories, nearly all of which have been published in print or digital formats. In his forties, now a former journalist, he decided it was time to get serious about his fiction writing. He is the author of The Kobalos Trilogy of epic fantasy novels, City of Rogues, Road to Wrath and Dark King of the North. He has been published online at Every Day Fiction, Demonic Tome, The Ranfurly Review, Flashes in the Dark and other venues. His stories have also appeared in print in the anthologies "Deadlines," "The Return of the Sword" and "Demons: A Clash of Steel Anthology." Ty's main writing and reading interests generally are in the horror and fantasy genres, but he's not above branching out into literary works from time to time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just hanging in there 6 Oct. 2014

Although I have stayed with the trilogy, I am not overly sure why. While it is a good story as it goes, I was, and still am disappointed that there was no underlying story in the first book, to go through too book 3.
It is just one long tale, with no side show.
Also I find it goes against the grain, to pay for a book, when an author can not give me at least 300 pages. And I don't mean pad it out with woffle.

continuation of the series with further character and geographical development. a glossary of sorts at the end of the book would be useful.

Definitely worth a read, although the characters are not complicated, they are interesting and as you read on you get drawn to them and that is always a good point.

I liked this series because all the books were a quick easy but enjoyable read. Good story and characters, although there was quite a lot of description of fighting which I was skipping by the middle of this book
