If you are planning to "do the one" you should definately get this book. we recently rode the pch from san francisco to L.A. and found this book invaluable. Jamie jensen has really done his homework here and his hints and tips are well worth trying out. We would have probably wasted at least an hour trying to decide which places to go and eat at. One of his tips for accommodation in Santa Barbara was the Franciscan Inn, which we stayed at and found it to be really nice. The welcome, decor and ambiance was so homely. We used the book to research and reserve all our accommodation for our road trip and probably saved quite a lot of money. Wished we had spent more time in Monterey and Carmel as there is so much to see and do. His tip for eating at joe's cafe on state street in Santa Barbara was well worth it. Hearst Castle really is a sight to behold and well worth the visit & Big Sur and Morro Bay are very picturesque. If you are doing this trip make sure you have this book with you (and a camera to take plenty of pictures of beautiful sunsets).

brought for a road trip down the pch in california. became the bible for the trip of recommendations to stay, eat and visit. would recommend to anyone doing a trip to the west coast of america.

I like this book, its easy to read and interesting. The only drawback is we (probably like most people) are only driving from San Francisco to LA and a good half the book is about the northern part of Highway one, upwards from San Francisco. So a good book, but be aware that it covers the whole of that drive and therefore if you are only doing a part of it, the book will only be relevant in places.

Some good info but lack of pictures/maps or anything practical. No suggested itineries, but written by someone who knows the area. Read more

Good little book
Got 2 copies for me and my friend. We looked forward to seeing many of the places in the book. We stayed in SF then drove to Monterey and Carmel then down the PCH. Read more

Raod Trip USA - a right good read
This is a fabulous little handbook on the Canadian / USA West Cost Highway. It is well written and a pleasure to read, full of such good information. Well worth a buy.

So many travel guides are bland.This isn't.It gives me personal opinion and that is what I like when planning a trip.
