Book Description

An around Europe diary of a hippie couple and Volkswagen camper van.

In 1993 we bought a VW camper, took a year off work and drove around the whole of the European coastline, island hopped through Greece and drove through Turkey to Cappadocia to the Caves of God. The trip took us 9 months.

The diary was written on a more or less daily basis and follows our little or maybe fairly major exploration of Europe.

On the way we met lots of good and interesting people; backpackers, fellow travellers, hitchhikers and holiday makers. We made many friends. Enjoy our horse riding adventures in Cappadocia with Mad Eric and Tonnie, our Corfu drinking sessions with Sue and Jill, market excursions with Gregg and Jeff in Portugal and our nudist experience on a beach in Crete. We had a fair few adventures, drank a lot of wine, enjoyed new cultures and drove thousands of miles.

Hopefully you'll read this book because you are going backpacking or travelling around Europe or just going to Cappadocia in a VW camper! We'd like you to enjoy our adventure as well.

This is a tidy up of my original, hand written diary.

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting read... 21 Mar. 2012

Format:Kindle Edition
As the author says, this is a copy of a hand written diary and there is quite a lot of the mundane stuff you'd associate with a diary.
Saying that, it is quite compelling, there are a few adventures and most of the people Ian and Sally meet are interesting.
I quite enjoyed it for what it was and felt a little saddened when the journey ended.
A good read, well recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Page Turning Adventure 18 Mar. 2012
By Zoe
Format:Kindle Edition
I loved this book, having travelled a little this year on the open road during a summer holiday, reading Road Trip to Turkey really inspired me to travel some more. The book is really well written with the story translated from the diary written by the Author during the trip. The books takes you through all the sights, smells and surroundings of 1990s Europe and the adventure and Ian and Sally get up to travelling with their trusty (or not so trusty at times) VW camper. It wasent all excitement but I found even the slower parts of the trip interesting and I almost wanted the book to carry on, as I enjoyed the style of writing so much. Very insprirational and something perhaps that more of us should try in our lifetime....

2.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but...... 31 Dec. 2012

The author says this is a revised edition to eliminate spelling mistakes and I think he must have got bored of the revision process very quickly. The book is littered with spelling mistakes and this sort of spoils the read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bad English 31 Aug. 2013

Being a former teacher this book drove me nuts as it was full of spelling and grammar errors. This really spoiled what could have been a good read.
