With the release of her nineteenth album, Slipstream, Bonnie Raitt is starting anew. The album marks her return to studio recording after seven years; it's coming out as the launch of her own label, Redwing Records; and it delivers some of the most surprising and rewarding music of her remarkable career, thanks in part to some experimental sessions with celebrated producer Joe ... 5.0 out of 5 stars Why did I wait So Long 13 Aug 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
For me some of the best tracks I have ever listened to. Everyone on stage is really enjoying it and the overall result hits me right between the ears. The Love me Like a Man track features the best modern blues slide guitar I have ever heard. Why O why have I waited since 1995 to buy this Album..? Even the Bass is right on the money and at just the right level. Just buy it. mike bungay

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly a live album to talk about. 27 Jan 2003
Format:Audio CD
She had been around for over two decades, appearing live in the Cambridge, Massachusetts jazz and blues clubs long before she had her first recording contract. She had been on stage with all the greats of the business. She had received triple Grammies for her 1989 release "Nick of Time." Her fans, ignited by her fiery live appearances, had been clamoring for a live album for years. Yet, it took Bonnie Raitt 25 years, a personal and professional roller coaster ride, and a succession of three bestselling albums ("Nick of Time" and the early 1990s releases "Luck of the Draw"" and "Longing in Their Hearts," all produced by Don Was) until finally, in 1995, a series of live appearances in Oakland, California and Portland, Oregon were recorded and blended together in this album, appropriately titled "Road Tested."
When the project was put together, Bonnie called on a number of friends, with whom she had shared the stage many times before and whose songs, having found a whole new interpretation in her performance, had become staples in her live repertoire long ago. And they all came: R&B legends Ruth and Charles Brown ("The jewels in our crown up here," Raitt commented when introducing them on stage), as well as rockers Bryan Adams, Kim Wilson, Bruce Hornsby and Jackson Browne; in addition to her seasoned stage band, led by Ricky Fataar (drums) and "Hutch" Hutchinson (bass), without whom, to this day, a Bonnie Raitt live appearance is simply unthinkable. And as always, Bonnie was deeply appreciative of everybody who showed up for the occasion: "Special thanks ... for coming to add so much to this long awaited project.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really excellent live album 1 Dec 2003
Format:Audio CD
Not many live albums work well, the music on them being either pale imitations of the originals, or so overdubbed that they sound identical to the originals.
This is an exception to the rule, and as a real bonus is a showcase of a blues singer and guitarist at the top of her powers vocally and musically.
She obviously enjoyed herself at the concerts recorded, and so did the backing band and guest artists, who are superb. I have little to add to the glowing reviews already given for this album other than to say BUY IT WHILE IT'S STILL AVAILABLE!

5.0 out of 5 stars A word of warning 14 July 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I agree wholeheartedly with the glowing praise in the other reviews. However, buyers (and really, that should be all of you because this is one hell of a record) should note that the 22 song double CD referred to by Themis-Athena is not what I was sent when I purchased the CD. The double has the catalogue numbers CDP 7243 8 35850 2 1 (disc 1) and CDP 7243 8 33705 2 8 (disc 2). What I received was a 16 track single CD, catalogue no.7243 8 36077 2 3, which was missing Three Time Loser, Love Letter, Have a Heart, Louise, Come to me and Feeling of Falling.

Worth checking before you buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bonnie on the road 28 Feb 2011
By GlynLuke TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
When people talk of the best ever live albums, the usual ones are trotted out, but Bonnie Raitt`s 1995 live one rarely if ever gets a mention. Shame!
Thrilling, gutsy, bluesy, rootsy, soulful, sexy, get-up-and-dance rhythmic, beautifully recorded, well-paced...Road Tested (great title) is all these things. There`s often something lost on Bonnie`s studio albums, true of many artists perhaps, but it`s what makes this arguably her finest, most representative collection to date. It`s certainly the one I`d save if I had to. (NB. No idea what other reviewers are referring to when they talk of a double CD - I`m reviewing the 16-track CD which is the only one I know or have ever seen.)
I don`t have favourite tracks as they are all, in different ways, memorable. But one or two highlights might be the opener, duetting with Bruce Hornsby on John Hiatt`s reliable rocker Thing Called Love, which gets proceedings underway in grand style; the terrific Shake a Little; Michael McDonald`s lovely Matters of the Heart; Bonnie`s slide guitar showcase Love Me Like a Man, on which she gives every other living blues singer or guitarist a comprehensive run for their money; on My Opening Farewell, she duets tenderly with the song`s writer Jackson Browne; the song-of-a-lifetime heartbreaker I Can`t Make You Love Me, sung here with as much if not more passion & immediacy as its studio version; two barnstorming tracks, I Believe I`m in Love With You, duetting with Kim Wilson, and Rock Steady, a gutsy mid-tempo duet with Bryan Adams at his abandoned best; and of course the closer, John Prine`s ballad Angel From Montgomery, sung with Browne, Adams, Hornsby & Wilson - gorgeous. I see I`ve mentioned half the tracks already. The rest are merely superb!

4.0 out of 5 stars 'Brilliant', I only wish there were more ballads.
Bonnie has one of the finest voices in Country Music. Each time I play the tracks 'Matters of the Heart' & 'Montgomery Angel' they never fail to send a shiver down my spine.
