Simply superb value for money. Two, first class, critically acclaimed crime thrillers that are some of the best of recent years and the third is still darned good.
Road To Perdition, with Tom Hanks and Jude Law (plus Paul Newman and Daniel Craig - just to drop a few choice names) and against type and under Oscar winning director Sam Mendes (American Beauty) form an intelligent and thought provoking period drama that is both satisfying and entertaining. It's one of critic Barry Norman's favourites of the genre, too.
Miller's Crossing is typically Coen brothers at their most efficient and driest. Full-blooded and with extremely powerful performances from Albert Finney and John Turturro plus Gabriel Byrne and Marcia Gay Harden this is one of those relatively unknown gems that is both respected and loved by those critics and viewers who do. The cinematography is superb, too.
Those two would be more than enough for the money but to get a third, makes it an absolute steal. The Funeral has some of the most iconic names in psychopathic character acting - Abel Ferrara, Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn PLUS, the very best, Christopher Walken. Revenge and honour is the name of the game in this slow burning crime drama.
The set comes in an outer card slip case, with a standard 20c Fox three-disc plastic holder. I don't really go in for DVD extras and haven't looked for them here - it seems that's just as well, as it would seem from the cover there aren't many/any.
