Synopsis

Johnathan Schaech (The Sweetest Thing, 8MM2) stars in this action-packed sequel to the classic action film, Road House. When Nate Tanner, owner of the Black Pelican roadhouse, is beaten up by a local drug runner and his thugs trying to pressure him to sell them his club, his nephew Shane (Johnathan Schaech) comes to the small town to help run the club. Shane, an undercover DEA agent by profession, soon finds himself defending the roadhouse from a seemingly increasing number of drug runners, all intent on making the place their own.

I had no idea this film even existed and was intrigued when it turned up on late night TV in the UK a couple of days ago. Firstly, the original Roadhouse film starring Patrick Swayze was cool. His portrayal of the character Dalton was similar to the character of Kane in the Kung Fu TV series starring David Carridine. Swayze's Dalton is minimal and there was an almost Buddhist feel to the way he moved throughout the film. The sequel stars Johnathon Schaech as DEA agent Shane who is the son of Dalton. This is the only thing that rankles with me. In the build-up key characters are always referring to the original Dalton and telling Shane what a great man his pappa was. They could have made this film without any reference to the original but than it would not have been a sequel. Anyway, the fight scenes are great and while Schaech is no Swayze he can kick butt!! Jake Busey plays a mean baddie in the film called Wild Bill and his scenes are hilariously over the top but provide light relief. Just because this film is a made for TV effort does not mean it is not good. Its a fine example of a TV movie being good enough for the big screen except in this case Johnathon Schaech is not a big enough draw at the box office.

This is one of the better DTV action movies of the 2000s era (as most have not reached the standard of 90s action), but it probably should not have been made as a sequel to the classic Road House. It is better viewed as a stand alone action movie 'inspired' by the Partick Swayze movie. A proper sequel would have included the original cast and have been made in the early 90s. However this is entertaining, with good fight scenes and therefore recommended for DTV action fans.

Surprisingly good 14 Jun 2007

Hi..
I bought 4 movies from Amazon UK in one shipment, they included Road house 2, Naked weapon, The Killer and Series7-The Contenders.
I have commented on and reviewed all 4 movies, so to check out the rest of the movies reviews check them out individually.
As for Road house 2, i really had low expectations for the movie, wasn't expecting much, but as soon as i turned on the dvd player and the movie started, i was hooked, the plot was simple but intriguing, nothing special but entertaining.
the acting was also good for such a movie, each actor did thier jobs well, again nothing special or Oscar calibar, but good enough.
Now what really impressed me was the fighting scenes, they were very well choreographed and pretty amuzing to watch, they do rank high, and to me some parts were really better than the fights from the first movie with Patrik Swaze.
I gave this movie 4 stars because it was pretty good and i took one star off because there were only few fighting scenes and i felt like the movie needed more, and because its a B-movie, and those don't get 5 stars.
In summary, i got surprised with this movie after having low expectation for it, i found it surprisingly good and entertaining for a B-action movie, i recommend this movie to anyone who likes action movies, its worth it !!
Out of the 4 movies i bought, i recommend this one and The Killer, but i don't recommend Naked Weapon, and please stay away from (series 7 - The Contenders), that movie really sucked !!!
