One that slipped through the cracks, 14 May 2003

Great album that seems to be off the radar for no good reason. He's got a soulful, distinctive voice and a great backup band. Can't ask for more. Every time I put this CD on I'm struck by how it holds up, and it's already over 10 years since its release. Where is this guy now?

Rod Stewart redux?, 10 Mar 2003

This album of well-crafted songs features a singer whose voice and songcraft most resembles Rod Stewart to this listener's ears. When you give him a good listen, Rod Stewart comes from a very country/folk place, stylistically. I'm only a casual listener, having picked this up on a lark, so further review might bear lengthier comment. Good CD, though, nice songs.

Aphrodisiac Styled Soul Crooning At Its Best, 19 Dec 2009
By Jeffery Haas - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Road to Freedom (Audio CD)
If you're of a certain age and background, then you get those special sweet chills down your neck when you hear the great soul crooners and stylists.
You know why, because these songs turn you on, and they turn on that special lady of yours.
Attention: You are about to be sucked into a vortex of soul stylings that is going to strip all your inhibitions away faster than a Cuisinart can pulverize an onion.
Grayson Hugh comes on strong but tender, fiery but sweet, devilish but angelic.
His funky ballads and love poems don't take no for an answer.
Grayson will bring your love to you, he will melt her, he will be the Cyrano who reads the innermost thoughts and feelings you wish you could give voice to, he will heal your woes and make your heart whole, he will arouse your lover so she is soft and pliant, wanting and willing.
In a word, this is the stuff guys put on the stereo when it's time to get busy.
Any woman who cannot get warm and sexy when she hears this soul cat calling on her passion root must be deaf, frozen to absolute zero or made of stone!
