I love Hans, his writing is so relaxed and comforting. This book offers his reflections over the last few decades of his journey to discover great Whiskies and Scotland, whilst in parallel documenting a snapshot few days of his current life organizing tasting events and entertaining clients as an ambassador for all things Whisky and Scotland. Re-published recently this is a great book to dip in and out of and Hans' enthusiasm is quite compelling; so much so that while reading this recently while visiting the distilleries of Islay, I almost wished I was in Speyside with him. I did say almost! but it has inspired me to start plans for a visit to the east coast soon. Lovely read, left me felling as warm as after a large dram.

To Anyone anywhere in the world with an interest in Whisky, I would urge you towards this wonderful, not too in-depth, light hearted and happy read, as I would also steer you towards the Craigellachie Hotel. Magic.

A must for lovers of Whisky and Scotland 19 April 2012
By T. Brannen - Published on
Format: Paperback
This fine book belongs in the library of all lovers of Scotland and Whisky.

I am ordering another copy as I loaned mine out and miss having it - not only to read again, but to keep as a reference to paint the pictures in my mind of the land and distilleries that produce the single malts I enjoy on occasion.

For folks like myself who have never visited Scotland, this book offers a wonderful account of the sites, landscape, and distilleries encountered along the author's travels. He offers a taste of Scotland, without going overboard, on this personal account of his travels over the last few decades. This inspiring journey is not only a diary of his travels over the years, it chronicles his life journey - pursuing his passion, his dreams, and his love for this place, people, and of course, whisky.

I am sure even frequent travelers to Scotland would appreciate this book, gaining some more insight into Scotland and whisky, while at the same time remembering the sites, stories, and tastes of their own journeys.

It doesn't matter if you're an educated whisky connoisseur or, like me, a beginning explorer into the world of whisky. This book is fun to read and gives you a lot of info about whisky and Scotland. It spans 35 years of the author's exploration through the (Scottish) world of whisky in which he developed himself from beginner to a well known and accepted whisky expert. Along the way this book offered me many more great starting points into the world of whisky. Go buy this book. You will absolutely not be disappointed!

Scotland (and a tour of the distilleries there) is something that is just a dream for most folks. The author has brought that experience to life and it is quite fun and amazingly educational. Like a fantasy tour of Scotland and the drink that has made it famous. Anyone who enjoys a dram and a thought of Scotland, will love this book.
Splendid trip to Scotland 19 Jan. 2012
By Lisa Pendelton - Published on
Format: Paperback
The vivid and captivating writing style of Mr. Offringa took me back decades ago, when I traveled those roads in Scotland with my husband. I am in my seventies now and revisit lovely places from my armchair. To the younger folk I would like to say: order a copy and book a trip to Scotland. Enjoy the read on the airplane!
