Product Description

The Wheels LP may be 45 years in coming, but it is well overdue. The Phil Smee-designed sleeve has such a classic period look that you would swear it came out at the time. 'Road Block' by The Wheels is one of the all-time great (and expensive) freakbeat /garage 45s. The Wheels were contemporaries of Them's lead singer Van Morrison who almost joined the band several times. Both the wilder demo version of Bad Little Woman (the one the Shadows of Knight covered) and the UK version are also high up on the list of screaming 60s punk. These are the complete Wheels sessions a lesson in British (and Irish) beat music of the time.

Just thought I'd put the record straight. The description says 'lead singer Rod Demick'.
Rod may have taken over as lead singer when Brian Rossi left (he came back for a final tour) but the images are definitely showing the lead singer Brian Rossi (in main image, at the front, no hair). Brian Rossi (R.I.P) was the leaed singer when these tracks were recorded.

Wheels - 'Road Block' (Big Beat) 20 Dec. 2012
By Mike Reed - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Irish freakbeat / R&B band's sole CD release. Twelve tracks here initially recorded 1964-67. An interesting fact about The Wheels is that it's been noted that Van Morrison nearly joined up with the obscure band prior to becoming the vocalist and frontman for Them. Although these cuts were [in fact] mastered off of their 45 vinyl singles, sound quality is fine. Tunes I liked best include the title track "Road Block", the toe-tapping "Bad Little Woman", their total ass-kicking John Lee Hooker cover "Send Me Your Pillow", the should-have-been a hit "Call My Name", "Kicks" (every bit as good as the Paul Revere & The Raiders smash hit) and their (you guessed it) Them cover "Gloria". Line-up: Rod Demick - guitar, harmonica & vocals, Herbie Armstrong - guitar, Tito Tinsley - bass, Brian Rossi - keyboards & vocals and Victor Catling - drums. Recommended for fans of the Shadows Of Knight, early Stones, Them (obviously), The Smoke and possibly the Easybeats.

Leavin' & Road Block are worth the price of admission 28 Aug. 2012
By EvenSteven - Published on Amazon.com

As stated above some key trax on this release do appear on the cd import "Maritime Hotel" & if you have that (I do on either a crappy tape or cd burn) you may not want to spring for this. But, while the Wheels were never "THEM" calliber they were a good & solid R&B outfit. If you like THEM you'll like the Wheels. They do fall short when attempting tunes like "Dont Ya Know" also covered more effectively by Van & Them or Paul Revere's Kicks is just ok. But, its great to hear stuff like the title track fully remastered & it hits like a sledge hammer (I have a crappy version like many do on the 1st Pebbles lp) & the mastering is very good on this Big Beat version. You get a nice alternate cut of "Bad Little Woman", & "Leaving" is about as raw knucked as Irish rock gets. I wouldnt call this essential but if you like mid 60s R&B/garage this will leave trax on your back.
