Those sneaky left handers :), 27 May 2004
This review is from: Road Angel with Laser Alert (Electronics)
I recently purchased this product, and I have to say I dont regret spending the 300 pounds.
It utilies GPS which is the only system that will detect passive camera systems. However this does mean that you have to update it to ensure all the camera locations are recorded. The first time you update it takes 30 min across the internet via your PC, from then on just a couple of minutes (I do it once a week or just before a long trip). You first have to activate the update service which takes 1 working day, making you wait a little longer before you get to play.
It comes with all the software need and a good length USB cable, making connection simple. The laser detector is a nice addition but if it goes off your speeds has already been taken.
I have also added it to my bike using the kit from blackspot and it works a treat. The bracket provided puts the display in a good position thats easy to read(on a Bandit anyway). Its not waterproof so you do need a tank bag if its not sunny. The power lead for the bike is also a bit trick to expose the wires on, but with a little fiddling it is possible. (same as noncoiled leaded supplied, minus cig connector)
The ability to add your own locations too, means that sneaky bend isnt so sneaky next time. Also great for adding bad road surfaces and grid covers just as a reminder.
Overall an excellent product that is flexible.
PS Links nice to Auto Route through GPS output providing basic SatNAV

People on here are complaining about the Road Angel not picking up cameras... Have you tried updating it? Also, if you ever do see a camera and your Road Angel does not bleep, store it in the memory, then next time you update it Blackspot can put the stored location into there database for everyone else to access. So when other people download there updates, they won't have the same problem.

Road Angels are brilliant except for downloads, 22 Dec 2006

Much as I would dearly love to do so I will not purchase another Road Angel or renew my subscription until other reviewers indicate that their down loading problems have been resolved( as they write to the contrary). They have been assuring me for a year that such problems have been resolved but that has not proved to be the case & for most of that time I have had an out of date data base.
I had no response to my letter requesting that my subscription be extended in view of those problems which makes one wonder about the company's integrety and about their marketing nouse
