Bought the Road Angel Professional Connected (RAPC) to replace my Road Angel 'Plus' (RAP) because - having moved across to an AppleMac system - I could not update the RAP database. I had been tempted by the Road Angel sales staff on a number of occasions (talk to them - they can normally offer a much better deal that any on line, including eBay!) and eventually took the plunge with a very special offer - over 50% off the RRP. So I received a RAPC - with a year's 'connection' subscription for around £180; pretty hard to beat! On the device itself, it's a quantum leap from the RAP and the remote control is so much easier than stretching across a long dashboard. It was up and running by the time it had received its first full charge.
I particularly liked the compact size - one of the reasons I didn't go for the Road Angel Vantage (RAV) - that and the fact that I couldn't use the car's RAP hard-wiring already in place - and the ability to customize the display colour to match the car's displays. The display is a bit busy but all the information is needed to give the necessary confidence that it's working. It was quick to connect with the Orange hub and, although its a little slower than the RAP to see the satellites on start-up, it's functioning fully within a few hundred yards of driving and frequently shows more than 8 satellites locked on which should give phenomenal accuracy on the ground. Compared to the RAP, I also like the dashboard mount which is a strong and positive 'click' action; the RAP's magnetic mount - while it never failed - didn't give me a lot of confidence and the unit could easily be displaced. Have never used the windscreen mount on either the RAP or the RAPC because I don't like things on the glass and the dashboard mount lets you fix it securely and in the optimum position. The original sales blurb boasted the ability to send text messages to it through the RA portal, but that appears to have been dropped. But the Tracking Facility (extra £1 pm subscription) is still available. Finally, I tend to use the Road Angel as my 'speedo' and rarely look at the car's display; so much easier to read and in my line of sight at all times.
One final shot: I appreciate that the Road Angel system architecture dictates it being updated through a PC, but Road Angel really are limiting themselves by excluding the AppleMac capability. However, the 'connected' version has overcome that, so if that's their chosen way ahead, I guess they don't need to accommodate the Mac OS.
Summary: As a long-term RA user, this is undoubtedly the best so far with arguably better capabilities, power management and mounting than the RAV. But do talk to the RA sales people before buying; the prices on most Internet sites - including Amazon - can normally be beaten!
