It s been fifteen years since RIVERDANCE first tapped its way onto the world stage thrilling millions of people around the globe. This unique show has been experienced LIVE by over 22 million people; in over 10,000 performances in 350 cities in 40 countries spread across 4 continents. It is the first international show to tour China extensively. Riverdance is a theatrical show consisting of traditional Irish stepdancing, notable for its rapid leg movements while body and arms are kept largely stationary. It originated as an interval performance during the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest, a moment that is still considered a significant watershed in Irish culture. This new DVD was filmed LIVE in the Beijing Exhibition Centre to celebrate the shows 15th Anniversary as part of its 12 city tour of China in 2010. It showcases the incredible beauty, energy and skill of the dance combined with the captivating rhythms of the music. This recording, which is the first since 2001, was filmed to the highest specifications on RED High Definition cameras giving the quality of 35mm film. Every Riverdance fan will enjoy this superb DVD product with Dolby Digital Surround Sound. As an additional feature to this DVD there is an extra half hour of material where the audience can get behind the scenes of the making of this DVD including an interview with the director, Declan Lowney. I remember seeing Riverdance for the first time live in London many years ago and what a delight to see this DVD on my brand new HD television. The dancing and the music is simply breathtakingly wonderful and the DVD quality is out of this world. I cannot recommend this DVD highly enough.

I'm a big fan of Riverdance (saw it when Michael Flatley first performed in it) so when I heard about this 15th anniversary edition filmed in Beijing, I jumped at the chance to get it.
I was completely blown away.
The back of the DVD says it was filmed on RED cameras/high definition and I could really tell the difference. Quality-wise, it is superb - crystal clear and sharp. Visually it's just a breathtaking performance. The choreography is fast-paced and flawless and the whole production is simply a pleasure to watch.
I also found the bonus material fascinating - there's around half an hour of behind the scenes footage of the making of this DVD, which includes an interview with the director, Declan Lowney. This whole section makes the production that much more intimate as I got a real feel of what life is like for the cast on tour and there's also a summary of what everyone has been up to for the 15 years that Riverdance has been touring.
In short, Live From Beijing is an absolute must have for any Riverdance fan, I can't give it enough praise!

I've always wanted to see the Riverdance live, I've realized that it's not going to happen, so on the strength of the reviews, purchased this one. Then last night, I forced the entire family (including 5 unwilling teenagers) onto the couch after dinner to watch it. What a performance! It was just fantastic, I really felt like I was there and even the most skeptical viewers were converted. What a great performance, and it was fun to see the reaction of the Chinese audience. I cannot recommend this DVD highly enough. It's the next best thing to being there!
