Home Thoughts from Abroad,
By A Customer
This review is from: The River Tyne from Sea to Source (Hardcover)
It has to be said that this, like any book based on a local area, is bound to have a limited audience. That said, for a Northumbrian like myself who spent 27 years living, working and playing near the River Tyne, Ron's book of watercolours is a wonderful keepsake. Like a photographer, Ron's paintings show a keen eye for detail and he does not shy away from painting some of the less obvious (and less attractive) scenes from the Tyne, particularly if there is a story to tell. The accompanying text, rich in historical detail, complements the paintings well.Of particular interest to me were the paintings of the Upper Tyne, away from the city of Newcastle, where the land gets wilder and the views more expansive. This still largely undiscovered part of the country is the perfect backdrop for Thornton's watercolours and he does ample justice to a beautiful landscape. A wonderful record of a River full of interest. A treasure trove of memories for an emigre like myself.

This is an outstanding book. Both sketches and information are superb. The quality of the covers and the paper is very high. The book arrived quickly and was well packed and in perfect condition. It will give me much pleasure.M Tully

A thing of beauty,
This review is from: The River Tyne from Sea to Source (Hardcover)
This wonderful book is crammed full of the most lovely drawing and sketches of the bridges, towns, villages, hamlets and landmarks of the Tyne and it's major tributaries. The text on each location is interesting, informative and takes less than half the spread allocated to each entry so the whole volume is colourful and detailed.A perfect gift for anyone who loves the North-East and Northumberland in particular.
