This is a truly earth-moving, yet sublime record, and in my opinion is the greatest recording ever made. It is raw, powerful and takes no prisoners. The title track rumbles on, and Tina begins to ease into it. Spector's famed wall of sound is in full flow, a truly huge arrangement. However, Tina's voice is bigger. In her need to overcome the arrangment Tina ripped off her blouse, and in the process laid down one of the really great vocal performances of all time. She is hollering and screaming, the wall of sound is forever growing, until the earth shattering conclusion is reached. The other Spector produced tracks continue in a similar vein, including 'I'll never need more than this', another recording to showcase Tina's raw power. Packaged along with the all-consuming Spector numbers are some Ike and Tina standards, including a cracking version of 'A Fool in Love'. This album is simply a masterclass in delivery and power, and is genuinly amazing.

what can i say about this that wasnt said at the time other than true class!(no that was said as well)all i can say is buy this and add a collection of some of the best ever recordings to your collection. It has the very original recording of 'river deep mountain high' and the passion it it makes this worth buying just for that! there are also 3 other songs on the album that are produced buy the legendary phil spector, 'a love like yours dont come knockin everyday','save the last dance for me' and 'i'll never need more than this'.apart from them there are a load of rare and popular ike and tina tracks such as ' a fool in love' and 'make em wait'i strongly suggest this album to any true music fan.

To answer the question on the tip of your tongue, Yes, the sound quality of this cd as apposed to the 1993 release is LOUNDER, CRISP, CLEAR, PUNCHY and FAR, FAR SUPERIOR. It sounds fantastic, it's like owning a new album altogether, I'm hearing sounds I've not heard before. It's a must buy. The music speaks for itself, it's Ike & Tina Turner , Phil Spector, Jeff Barry & Ellie Greenwich at full tilt. Put simply, it's one of greatest albums ever made.

Hard to imagine that this album is now almost 45 years old. It still packs an enormous punch thanks to Tina's impassioned delivery, but perhaps more so because of Phil Spector's Wall of Sound, although he only produced 6 of the 12 tracks here. Apart from the title song, these are Hold On Baby, Every Day I Have To Cry, Save The Last Dance For Me, I'll Never Need More Than This and A Love Like Yours. The remainder include reworkings of some earlier hits: It's Gonna Work Out Fine, I Idolise You and A Fool In Love amongst others. These tracks have a much rawer sound, though they're more typical of the Turners' style at the time. The Philles tracks are all about Phil. Tina, like everyone he recorded, was just another element in a massive production. America ignored River Deep when it was issued as a single [it stopped at 88 on the chart, the album wasn't even released there] but in the UK it made number 3, and A Love Like Yours also charted. This is a 60s classic and should be in everyone's collection. The cover photo, incidentally, was shot by the late Dennis Hopper.

try to find a new issue of the classic London 7" single, still the best way to hear this monumental record has been a task of mine since I cam home with that wonderful candy strip covered single. The A&M vinyl album was OK but surpringly dull. As the years have gone by and my listening equipment has got vastly superior and the advent of the digital age dawned I bought the Wall of Sound box set (pretty good vinyl sound), then the Back to Mono box set ( a great disappointment as second generation tapes were used) and also found RDMH on various comps. The sound on the recent Sony Legacy is superb and RDMH does sound damn good. Pity Sony didnt get hold of this one but nevertheless the label have done a good job and the album does sound pretty good. Perhaps one day we can have a straight down the line mono release, but I can still heartily recommend this album very strongly to all Spectorphiles. We can only hope that the Righteous Bros will eventually get a proper sound release.
