I can't understand that this has had some negative reviews as I love it. Every pasta dish I have made, and I've made loads of them, is delicious. They are extremely easy and quick to prepare but taste authentically Italian. I even love some of the sauces that you don't cook. Our family favourite, however, is the sausage pasta recipe. You need to try that. I use this book frequently and every dish is lovely.

This is an easy to follow book with enough pasta/sauce recipes to keep most cooks happy. It is the simplicity of the dishes that really won me over.

I love Italian pasta dishes but I was getting bored with the repertoire we had and needed some new ideas. I did buy a small pasta book before but only made one recipe out of it and was disappointed when I examined the recipes in detail - they were more American than Italian it seemed to me. Anyway, having looked through a few other pasta books, and not wanting another big glossy tome with more lifestyle photos than recipes, I was delighted to find this. The recipes are beautiful, simple for the most part and very effective. Also, while they include instructions on making fresh pasta they don't focus unduly on this like some other books do, recognising that dried pasta has its well-deserved and time-honoured place in the kitchen! Though I have salivated over nearly all of the recipes, so far I have only made two but both were easy and very tasty (penne with sausage and ricotta and orechiette with broccoli and pancetta). Also, many of the recipes are extremely quick to make which is perfect for two working parents who survive mainly on one-pot meals that can be cooked ahead. Sometimes you just want pasta and not always with bolognese! A simple, helpful, classy and compact little book.

One of my top 5 cookbooks and I have over 100! Recipes look easy, and most can be done in 30 - 45 minutes, but have lots of small details which together improve the taste of the finished sauce. There are only few ingredients in each recipe, but if you make an effort , and buy the best that you can find of each element, you will be blown away by how great the end flavour is.

This book is nice enough. As always, the people at the River Café create food and recipes that are true to authentic Italian cookery. Most of the pasta dishes in this book are simple and easy to follow, and there is a really good number of recipes included in such a small "pocket sized" book. Of course the down side of a pocket book is that it only has room for small number of pictures. Personally I like to see a picture to get the idea of what I am aiming for - though with pasta dishes where the sauce is served mixed up with the pasta, this is less significant. As another reviewer mentioned however, if you have other River Café books, you will find some significant overlap. Another negative for me is the format of a pocket book - the small size and narrow pages means it's really difficult to keep it open to the page you want while cooking, and even my recipe book stand cannot hold it open.
