I was attrached to this model as it would have been a lot easier to find space in the freezer for the freezing disc that this model uses than freezing the whole bowl that most other models use.

In my opinion the design and construction of this unit is seriously flawed. Whilst being careful to properly assemble the unit and add ingredients in accordance to the instructions, we've had numorous repeated failed attempts at making ice cream. The icecream starts to form on the freezer disc OK, but the lid/motor assembly is too flimsy and rather than the paddle scraping the forming icecream off of the frozen disc, it builds up with the quick result that the paddle forces the lid/motor assembly to disconnect from the base. Leaving us with a mostly unfroozen pool of ingredient and a rapidly hardening layer of frozen solid ice on top of the disc, making a 2nd attempt impossible.

I though that perhaps the unit was defective - Amazon kindly provided a replacement, and were great in terms of no fuss and reimbursing postage etc. The 2nd unit was slightly better - we had 3 excellent batches of icecream, but my doubts about the design & construction soon proved right as the lid/motor assembly of 2nd unit now also 'pops off' and after 4 further attempts, Amazon have again been brilliant and provided a refund including postage. Since ordering the first unit 3 weeks ago, it has been defective and in transit for more days than its been working and the postage cost Amazon has reimbursed is greater than the price of the unit.

In my opinion - one to avoid.

This ice cream maker only lost out on 5 stars because of 1 detail.I have found that when the churning process has finished the paddle gets stuck in the ice cream causing the lid part to become detached from the bowl.This means that you really need to be closeby to stop the machine as soon as you notice it happening.
However the finished ice cream is perfect and does the same job as my previous machine for a fraction of the price.
The other benefit with this machine is the small amount of space it takes in the freezer.There is a separate freezer gel 'block' which will fit in any freezer drawer unlike a lot of the other models which will not and need a chest freezer!
Also if you chill the ingredients first in the fridge the actual churning process can take as little as 15 mins.
It cost less than �20 on Amazon and does the same job as my previous model which cost in excess of �60.
All in all good price ,good results,buy it!

There is a small plastic peg on the surface of the freezing disk. Mine has bent after being in my freezer. This make the attachment of the blades very difficult and they turn erratically as they are now off kilter.
Not very impressed overall.

I've just made my first ice cream, strawberries/whipped double cream/caster sugar and it froze well in 20 minutes. The disc is much more easily stored than a canister. Read more
