Nicola Conte is a DJ and a classically trained musician who makes sublime Jazz music. The orchestration, arrangements, and level of playing on this album are of the highest quality. Nicola seems to have the blue note ensemble guidebook as his bedtime reading. This album, from the catchy opener onwards bristles with masterful playing, the trumpet player Till Bonner(?) particularly impressing in a Lee Morganish style of phrasing. And where do you hear a bouncing, swinging baritone saxophone these days? This is an evocative, smooth, album which seems to be the style from Schema Records. However as a trademark its not a bad one to have for the label to have. Conti wrote all but 2 of the tunes on this album and his compositions are all infused with jazz. This album is choc full of good old-fashinoned-modern-cool-toe-tapping greatness. This album wants to be leaning against a cadillac in Harlem, smoking, in a pair of pointed shoes, wearing straight trousers a nice shirt and shades on beneath the trilby. That's how cool this album is, Don't miss this modern classic.
