Format:Audio CD
Gabrielle Roth is an urban shaman, pioneer of the 5 Rhythms method of movement/dance "therapy" with a spiritual foundation. This CD is by her and her group The Mirrors and focusses primarily on the first rhythm of "Flowing". The music is low, relaxing, deep and mostly slow. The drums have a resonance which goes through the body. It has quite a primitive, mystical ambience but is rich in tonal depth and quality. It is the first CD I ever bought of hers and I use it for massage and healing work. If you are beginning the 5 Rhythms, this CD is a wonderful way to connect with and learn about that first rhythm.
Instrumentation is mostly drums with some low string sounds, sometimes sliding, sometimes holding for the length of a drum phrase. It is definitely a five stars buy and one of the most relaxing CDs I have ever had my ears wrapped around.
All tracks are titled with names evocative of mystical nature and sacred landscapes. This CD captures that spirit beautifully.
As an extra aside, this CD was the one used to provide part of the soundtrack to a video by Joseph Campbell which detailed an overall study of world mythology, just to give you some idea of its ability to invoke a sacred atmosphere of a non-specific religious orientation!!

Format:Audio CD
This is my favorite music of the two Gabrielle Roth and the Mirrors music I own. When I listen ... the first thing I hear is the rhythm and drum beats. They help me focus. As my mind calms down and body relaxes ... In track #1, "The Lonesome Song" - the native flute music, takes the listener to another time and place, where the spirit roams free but is alone, looking for the missing connection ... to another soul.On #2 "Oceana" my feelings ride the sound waves of the viola. There are haunting vocals that add depth and an other-worldly feeling to the music. In track #3, "Cloud Mountain", the kora, an African harp-like stringed instrument, along with the oboe and English horn are heard above the very enchanting drum beats. The most outstanding feature of all the tracks is the ritualistic drum ... keeps the unconcsious mind connected to its primordial roots. In track #4 "Prairie Runs", the rainstick is shaken at unexpected intervals ... to awaken the spiritual elements within the listener. Always, the drum beats connect the listener to the primitive aspects of the soul. This is trance-inducing music of the highest order. Highly recommended. Erika Borsos (bakonyvilla)

Format:Audio CD
In tune with the title, this CD is perfect for the ritual of dance for one's own well being. The opening song, a single instrument, is like a call to move. It leads you gently in to the flowing sinewy rhythm of the next two songs. The CD is best listened and danced to in it's entirety as the music provides a complete experience. The sounds are haunting, the rhythms simply move you. I listen to this CD over and over and never tire of it.
