I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to entertain and needs new ideas. It's fun and helpful and the illustrations are gorgeous. I like the way that the emphasis is not on spending but more on thoughtfulness - how relatively inexpensive gestures can make your guests feel really welcome, and make your parties memorable. And there are some great recipes dotted throughout the book - especially in the puddings chapter!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was glad to see that I am not the only one who still thinks there is no substitute for good manners and still enjoys entertaining my freinds in as much splendour as I possibly can.
This book provides many useful tips and menus on how to do that and guides you through that difficult area of matching and selecting guests.
Definately one for the budding domestic goddessess out there!

Readers hoping for cookery tips should look elsewhere; this is an entertaining 'lifestyle' book rather than a cookery bible. I bought this expecting a light, breezy read - and so it is. Having said that, it is ever such great fun. Rita's emphasis is on enjoyment rather than expertise, and on thoughtfulness rather than showing off. Most of her tips are inexpensive and easy to put into practise. Not convinced that I'll be serving take-out meals to guests anytime soon though - maybe Rita's local takeaway dishes are less grease-based than mine!! A book for anyone who likes adding a little sparkle to proceedings - just because it's a nice thing to do once in a while.
