My six year old daughter is a great fan of Hilda Offen's little superhero, Rita the Rescuer. Rita is the youngest of four children and has three older brothers (my own little girl is the youngest of three, with two older brothers, so I am sure she understands Rita's problems completely!). As the youngest, Rita is often left out of her brother's games. In the first story in this collection (and the first in the series), "Rita the Rescuer", she finds herself left behind once again when a parcel arrives for her. Inside is a superhero outfit and Rita is transformed into Rita the Rescuer!

There are two more stories in this book: Rita and the Haunted House and Rita in the Deep Blue Sea. Whether rescuing people in her own neighbourhood, while trick or treating or under the sea, Rita is a wonderful character. These are fairly short stories, with lots of great illustrations, and this book is excellent for children who have moved on to first chapter books, as well as to read aloud. Just be warned that this collection of three Rita stories only has black and white illustrations, not the colour pictures you will find in the stand alone stories. However, a great buy and a good addition to my daughter's bookshelves.

My girls love these series. They are fun and humorous. Rita is the youngest member of the family, and is left out of the games for being 'too young'.. But she discovers that she has super powers...and the fun starts!. Great book for both boys and girls, showing a different role model for girls beyond the passive/ pretty pink princess that is good at...being pretty. Rita is adventurous, strong, clever, and loves helping others when they are in trouble. Good also for boys to help them see girls in a different light. I wnat my daughters to grow up feeling and knowing that they are more than what they look like, and for boys to see beyond appearence too, and feel that the current role models available in children's books are very limited and regressive.

Rita is often left out but one day she finds a supercostume and she transforms into a superhero. These stories are great for showing young girls that they can do and be whatever they want. My three and five year old girls love these stories and they have great pictures too. They are quite simple too so in only a year or so my 5 year old will be able to read this herself. Go Rita!

Thin pages and black and white pictures inside. Nothing like the copy I lost and was trying to replace
