Product Description

In Risk Legacy, every game you play will change every future game. A decision you make in Game 1 could come back to haunt you in Game 10. The risks you take in Risk Legacy are not like in any other board game. You and the other players will shape how your world evolves; its history and its cities, even its factions and how they fight. Cards and stickers will come into play. Cards will go out of play forever. You don't forget past betrayals... and neither does the game.

Unlock new rules and watch events unfold as you play more games. No Two games will ever be the same.

Play your game. Write your history.

Risk Legacy is essentially standard Risk with a few additions. Players are expected to permanently modify the game board and literally tear up certain cards when certain events take place and certain choices are made during a series of 15 games. After 15 games, the player is left with a game board 'shaped' by past events, making it extremely customised and lending it a certain sentimental value. There is even an envelope emblazoned with 'DO NOT OPEN. EVER.' which can obviously either be ignored (likely as well as Pandora ignored a certain box) or opened, the consequences of which the players must then bear. I gather that the contents of this envelope vary from game box to game box.

I would, however, offer the following thoughts/critiques:

It is worthwhile considering not actually tearing up the cards and using pencils and blu-tac instead of pen and the sticking adhesive, thereby making the game re-customisable after the 15-game run is over; a lot of players online have reported sharp drops in interest upon completing the 15th game.

Risk Legacy is possibly the most unique and interesting board game I've ever played - which might sound strange, given that it's very much normal Risk at it's core, but true none the less.

This is because every individual game is merely but a chapter in what will eventually become a grand saga, complete with alliances, betrayals, twists and turns. By the time you've finished the quoted 15 games, you haven't just played one game a bunch of times - you've created and starred in a story with your friends. And because of that, this is a game you *should* play with the same people every time.

In fact, I highly recommend arranging with a few friends to split the cost of the game to ENSURE that this group sticks together. I never thought I'd convince people to do this, but luckily my friends were really receptive to it and it was a fantastic campaign - with us taking it in turns to host and the overall winner after 15 games getting to keep the board.

If you don't know anything about Risk Legacy and you've read this far, probably bewildered, then the whole concept is that you constantly customise the board. You will write on it, place stickers on it and sign it - and so will your friends. It will become a world that shows visible scars of previous battles, previous victories and some very unexpected turns (all of which I can't spoil for you). When certain things happen, you'll get to open up super-secret packs that change the fundamental rules of the game (you'll actually place stickers in the rulebook).. it's incredibly exciting.

I really can't recommend this game enough. It's not like anything else I've played and is just such a great social game. You can play it with less than 5 and you could change who you play it with - but you really shouldn't. It's chocked full of MOMENTS, many of which you'd never see coming.

We have played this almost every day on holiday. A game takes 2-3 hours and unlocking the surprises adds a lot. Even my middle son (15 year-old) who is often reluctant to play board games has been playing enthusiastically. Not as strategic as most of the other board games we play - but great fun

We're 4 games into this. Things have been destroyed, stickers are everywhere, stuff has been written on and friendships have been pushed to straining point. This is truly excellent. Grab some boardgame lovers and commit to playing the full 15 games with them. You won't regret it. You might cause arguements and fights amongst yourselves, but it's all part of the game. Just superb.

I play this with my boys, 11 and 13, and I find myself enjoying the relative complexity and challenge. Something I would never have said of previous versions. The game world / board evolves as different missions are completed and the many various developments take place. Great fun, if somewhat long, but that's both a limitation and asset. Great for rainy Sunday afternoons, not so good for after dinner entertainment.

This is an excellent evolution of a classic game. The base Risk gameplay is largely unaffected, but the ideas of persistence in a board game is something I certainly have never seen before.

The game is designed to be played over 15 games. I would strongly advise you to play with the same group of people, as the changes you make will impact your future games. The first game starts much like classic risk with a few tweaks such as all your troops starting in one territory and expanding out, and also having a HQ to defend. After the game is completed, the winner gets to sign the board and gets a permanent advantage such as getting to name a continent, giving him alone a +1 troop bonus if he holds it. The game evolves across your plays, unlocking more missions and wildcards to spice the game up.

I am 4 games into the 15 with my group and we are really enjoying it. Already you can see how the 'legacy' of the previous games affects the future games, with certain territories becoming hotly fought over.

If you are a fan of the classic game of world domination and you have a group that are interested in the time investment of playing 15 games, don't hesitate to pick this up
