5.0 out of 5 stars Rune factory OCEANS 23 July 2012

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Rune Factory oceans(also known as Tides of destiny in the USA)is the latest in the Rune factory series.

NO SPOILERS!

Pros:
Same quality story line.
Villagers have real character.
Excellent weapons/fighting.
Take 3 monsters to fight with you.
Real use for monsters in farming (you'll grow attached to your little guys).
Cant knock yourself out cooking/crafting when low on RP.
Great game length/replay value.
Very easy controls.
+ YOUR CHARACTER CAN JUMP (big rune factory addition).

(For those who played RF Frontier and didn't lie the dreaded Runeys the system was removed, so no worries in oceans.)

Cons:
No monster riding (but can take 3 to fight with you).
R stick not used for camera (instead press L1 to center camera behind character, not a big deal really).
Slightly less involved farming than previous titles.

In all this, after RF3 on the DS, is my favourite Rune factory ever!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm Addicted to this Game 6 Sep 2012

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
For anyone who has ever played any of the Rune Factory or Harvest Moon Games before much of this game will be familiar to you,

However Oceans has alot of changes with it that really separate it from the rest of the series. (3 Monsters in battle, Using spirit magic to grow crops, The Ability to Jump)

New players will be able to fully understand the game and appreciate it and returning players will see Cameo's of previous rune factory characters.

Oceans is now my favorite of the Series, The Island that you live on in the game is beautiful and changes with the seasons. The characters in the game really grow on you and as your relationships with them develop I found myself wanting to know more about the characters and to get to the next friendship event, Like the other games in the Series Rune Factory Oceans lets you get married and have children and some of the Heart Events are really sweet and very well done.

The story although I found parts of it to be very predictable was really good, Unlike every other RF game where the main character has lost his memory this time around you are sent into the future, which makes a fresh change.

The Game has some amazing voice Actors and its beautifully done and overall highly addictive.

There are some features from other games in the series that I would have liked to see in Oceans but the new additions and changes more than made up for it, (being able to jump in this game was such a huge improvement for me personally).

Such a fantastic game. I've never really played Rune Factory before, but I've played Harvest Moon and was suggested this game. I am so in love with it, lots of different things to do, various missions both big and small and just a very cute game ^.^

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, simply amazing 11 Aug 2012
By Oxy :)
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Absoultly amazing, simply put, this is not the common RPG for people like myself ive played many RPGs such as the FF series dragons dogma, mass effect, blue dragon and so forth this is out of the ordinary.

You harvest and mine your way for materials with the creatures you take on your team (up to 3 to fight and more to harvest) as the seasons change as do the daily festivals in the game with hilarious cutscenes you build relationships with all villagers to get to really know thier story and even reveal more things to do in the game such as building a house, you go through the story crossing a vast wide ocean discovering new places leveling with whatever weapon you choose.

This really is an out of the ordinary RPG but with patience this game really does begin to shine.

The only cons i saw as this was my first in the series to play was that:

.the monsters really dont seem a huge help in allot of areas and strategy becomes key to crossing certain areas
.the story sometimes isnt very clear on what you must do, which usually means taking on new quests till something pops up.

All in all however 5 stars

One of my best choices about JRPG in the last years.A really funny game that can bring you a lot of hours of fun in front of your TV.Rune Factory is not as spectacular as Final Fantasy, but all scenery, sound, story and characters will be remembered forever in your mind.A charming and very advisable game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Game! 6 Oct 2012
By Emily
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I'm terrible at reviews really, but this game is absolutely amazing. The characters are engaging, the storyline fun and interesting, and the battle system (pretty much button mashing) is good, if a little repetitive.
It's a game with a loooot of replay value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take a seat and relax. 11 Jun 2013

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Hey folks.
For those of you coming from the harvest moon series and the early rune factory titles I think you'll find this a bit of a (pleasant) departure from the standard playstyle.

Personally I feel there's much less emphasis on farming and much, much more on the fantasy/monster taming/RPG side of things-- however I suppose that isn't entirely a bad thing.
Usually in this series you inherit a farm, or collapse infront of a farmhouse to be nursed back to health by the local waif, or something along those lines. Not so here.

First, you tame monsters-- then you have the monsters raise your crops. You won't be able to raise plants until a few days in, but despite this the game is paced very well, allowing you a few days to acclimatize, which is great for both new players and old as the gameplay has some rather hidden depths, however you want to play it.

The characters are cute and engaging, the crafting system is fleshed out well and frankly the game has a relaxing kind of atmosphere that seems to be able to blow even my stress away, which is saying something-- and what's more, it's fun. Like, really fun.

The only niggle I have is the voice acting. Quite a lot of it feels very wooden.

Gameplay: 4/5 a bit of a departure from what I'm used to in the series, but still fun in its own right.
Music: 3/5 Nothing spectacular, but adds a nice ambiance.
Style: 5/5 Cute as hell.
Overall Fun: 5/5 Looking forward to the sequel.
