Hometown Story is one of those games that wildly divides opinion. Some people who'll play it will be bored right from the first 5 minutes, others will continue to play on regardless, and may just find a few redeeming features.
Firstly, taking into account all the talent that worked on this game, the overall product doesn't do much to live up to the hype. The game's art is charming and cute, but the environments are boring and uninspired. The soundtrack quickly becomes irritating and you'll often find yourself sliding the volume down.
The gameplay is intriguing to begin with but it quickly becomes tedious and somewhat pointless. The characters, who are all different lack personality and depth - and all of these problems from the dude who created Harvest Moon?
Basically if you pick up this game expecting the worst, you might be pleasantly surprised. If you are expecting a shop sim to rival Harvest Moon, well you'll be sorely dissapointed.
And to those of you who find repetition unbearable, best not pick this game up, as it requires spending large portions of your time doing the same thing, over and over!
