Product Description

Product Description

In search of a missing girl, our hero stumbles upon the frontier town of Trampoli. Here he finds the object of his search but his task doesn't end there. In the mysterious town inhabited by spirits called Runeys and shadowed by a gigantic whale island, he must start life anew.

In this idyllic setting our hero can pursue various trades (farming, forging, crafting, cooking, etc.), explore the town and the floating island above, or seek out adventure in the dungeons. Over time the town will grow, as do the number of inhabitants. Shopkeepers, farmers, tavern masters and craftsmen; all are ready to be our hero's friends, enemies and maybe more. However, trouble in the sky above soon interrupts our hero's new life. What is this ominous power that threatens such a peaceful town? How will he protect his friends, his love and the village that has become his home?

3.0 out of 5 stars Hard at start, easy later on. 17 July 2011
By DC
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Like all Harvest Moon series its always hard at the beginning. It wouldn't be a problem if Rune Factory would follow pattern known from Harvest Moon series. But it doesn't. They added "lame" combat to it and made growing crops daunting, depressing task.

First combat - it's simple button masher where you either : A - Attack, B - run ( or if you stay, die ). There isn't any way to block and there is only one special move to each weapon. So combat is very basic and poorly made. Didn't enjoy it. I would expect some sophisticated blocking, dodging skills but no... it's either run or attack... Which is boring after a while.

Growing Crops - Lots of new player neglect "runeys" a little glowing creatures, at the beginning of the game. Doing so they decrease quality of the crops and the speed of growing. After few months in some regions runeys are dead and your crops grow TWICE much longer and Lots of them whither ( die... ). So if you want a good farm grab a harvester and distribute runeys in each region of the town... WHICH IS A PAIN! Once you've done that money isn't a problem. Just plant most expensive crops to get loads of cash . Soon you will buy everything that is possible to buy.

Story is a little bit lame... But characters makes up for lack of good story line. There are many responses for each character unlike Harvest Moon series where characters had 2-3 lines that repeated all the time. So basically more chatter :) It's fun to impress the ladies in this game, but it can be daunting task if you want to get them all at 10 heart...

Graphically it's way better than any other harvest moon series! Very nice backgrounds, characters animation, it's just great! Compared to hravest moon : tree of tranqulity... boy that was blank...

5.0 out of 5 stars Addictive 25 Jun. 2010

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I already own the first Rune Factory game for DS and really enjoyed it, so I was excited to hear that it would be released for Wii. I was even more pleased when I played the game.
Far better than it's DS counterpart (partly due to the higher graphic capabilities of the wii). A wonderful mix of the original Harvest Moon concept with an added challenge. The battle system is extremely simple and easy to use, the menus are well-laid out and there's a large selection of monsters to fight and tame.
There are hidden events, many occupations to level up in and alot of characters to meet, some of which are easier to get to know that others and several which must be unlocked.

Enjoyably simple dispite its many features, this game is a brilliant buy for all ages and highly addictive. It also contains many fully animated cutscenes and a dating system. I wish there was the option of playing as a female character - I guess that'll be in later games as with the DS series.
Hightly Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous visuals, relaxing gameplay 16 Jun. 2011
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I've long been a fan of Harvest Moon games, but this was the first Rune Factory I've played. It's very similar to Harvest Moon but with the addition of dungeons and monsters to occupy you. The monsters can be tamed and kept in a barn, replacing the traditional animals, and used to get milk, wool, honey and eggs, as well as helping you on your farm. I quite liked this feature as you have such a wide choice of monsters to tame.
Unlike most Harvest Moon games, the other residents of Trampoli don't only repeat the same stock two phrases each day; if you keep talking to them they might mention something especially interesting, which makes them feel more alive. The residents and potential wives are all diverse and interesting, with some deviations from the traditional character types (especially Selphy the librarian). They help to make the game so compelling.
The village of Trampoli itself is pretty large, with lots of different areas to explore. This, along with the four dungeons available, makes this game pretty big. All of the circumstantial occurrences that happen by being in the right place at the right time (either of which you'd not be able to guess at) characteristic of Harvest Moon games give the game so much depth; you actually don't know when something might happen and how it will affect the game or your relationship with another character. One example of this is the event that results in Tabatha and Bianca staying at the end of summer.
The art style and visuals of this game are maybe one of my favourites on the Wii; I'm a big fan of anime so the character designs appealed to me straight off. The environments are beautiful and very relaxing, and combined with the gentle gameplay, it makes this a good game to wind down with.

5.0 out of 5 stars A CLASSIC JAPANESE cRPG 17 July 2011
By NeuroSplicer TOP 500 REVIEWER
Verified Purchase
In the history of gaming Japanese computer Role-Playing games (JRPGs) have carved a niche full of legends, such as Zelda and Final Fantasy. Then, there are sleeper gems such as the RUNE FACTORY FRONTIER.

If you enjoy the world exploration and crafting the World of Warcraft as well as the simulated farming of FarmVille, be prepared to immerse yourself into a world of addictive naivete where one tames the monsters and has to prepare for battle by...cooking.

Do not underestimate it, because THIS IS A VERY ADDICTIVE GAME. And, in contrast to most cRPGs, this is a game that couples will fight each other for the WiiMote. I love this game because it reminds me of the classic The Legend of Zelda - Link's Awakening on my old GameBoy. My wife loves the game too because the soft graphics remind her of the girly anime series she enjoyed while in elementary school.

You have been warned.
