Book Description

21 July 2010

A rare hybrid of vampire and werewolf, Riley Jenson and her twin brother, Rhoan, work for Melbourne's Directorate of Other Races, an organisation created to police the supernatural races - and protect humans from their depredations. While Rhoan is an exalted guardian, aka assassin, Riley is merely an office worker - until her brother goes missing on one of his missions. The timing couldn't be worse. More werewolf than vampire, Riley is vulnerable to the moon heat, the weeklong period before the full moon, when her need to mate becomes all-consuming...

Luckily Riley has two willing partners to satisfy her every need. But she will have to control her urges if she's going to find her brother. For someone is doing some illegal cloning in an attempt to produce the ultimate warrior - by tapping into the genome of nonhumans like Rhoan. Now Riley knows just how dangerous the world is for her kind - and just how much it needs her.

5.0 out of 5 stars "No sex please, we're british!" 6 May 2007
Format:Paperback
At long last, we have a book that embodies all the excellent qualities of paranormal romance without all the unnecessary sexual marathons of "Anita Blake-esque" novels. Yes, there is a good dollop of "hot loving" in this book but just the right amount. Call me a prude, but I don't think it's a quality read when the leading lady bonks 3 different shifters or vamps on the way to the supermarket, then a further 10 on the return journey. This does tend to result in a "same old - same old".

The story itself is gritty and punchy and highlights Riley, the protagonist, as a kick ass were/vamp hybrid with a conscience. The love interest Quinn is deadly yet affable and I would most certainly like to meet him in a dark alley. Yes, hang onto your knicker elastic, this one's going to be a bumby ride!

All in all, a really enjoyable read. The characters were believeable and the plot convincing. A welcome deviation from the normal were/vamp paranormal romance novels, one that focuses on plot and an actual story as opposed to how many sexual positions the author can fit into 1 chapter!

I'm just about to buy all the books in this series. Yes, they're that good! Definately clear a space in your study - this one's a keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic book and great series. 25 Sep 2007
Format:Paperback
I first discovered this in the book isle of my local Asda. It isn't the kind of book I would normally read but I was hard pressed for choice and decided to give it a try. Boy was I suprised!
Keri Arthur is a very talented writer. The world she has created is so realistic you can almost feel the atmosphere she describes. She goes into the book as if you already know all about her world, and even though I didn't have a clue, I forgot that I didn't the minute I started reading.
The characters in this book are the best I have seen in a long while and I am in the process of reading my way through the rest of the series. Keri Arthur has got me hooked on this genre. and I fully intend to see this series to the end.
A very well written and entertaining series which I couldn't put down. I would recommend this for people who have read this genre before but I would also say that this series is a great entry point at which to begin.

1.0 out of 5 stars Promiscuity ruins it 6 Mar 2011
By Tommy D
Format:Paperback
I'm a real fan of supes. So I gave Keri Arthur and her werewolf/vampire heroine Riley Jenson a go.

However, I will not be buying her books again. The main reason for this is the abundance of gratuitous sex scenes. Riley's need for sex with any man just to take the edge of the "moon heat" - during which the need to mate being all-consuming - consumed my interest in the story / plot.

I'll be throwing this book in the bin and will happily refer other supe-fans to Chloe Neill, Kelley Armstrong, Richelle Mead, Rachel Caine, Cast ... And if sex scenes are your thing read Lyndsay Sands or Nalini Singh instead. At least those generate some heat.

Don't waste your time and money on this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars fresh vamp in town
Well, hello, boys and girls, there's a new vamp in town. One that is part werewolf. Actually, a tad more werewolf than vampire. Oh, I'm rambling. You haven't met her yet, have you? Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoying the series
Funny, entertaining and kept me reading. Fair enough some of the sex scenes and wording are repeated a few times but push past it and keep going, it is worth it. Read more
