Book Description

26 Sep 2012 The Witch Hunter
In the year 1563, Mary, Queen of Scots, passed Scotland's Witchcraft Act. The act not only made witchcraft illegal, but to consult with or defend a witch was also illegal. And so the witch hunts began. By the time the act was repealed in 1736, around 4000 ordinary people had been accused, tortured, convicted and executed. They were all innocent. Or were they? When Peggy Stuart learned that she shared her name with a notorious witch from the witch trials of the late 1600s, she felt the need to find out more information. Little did she know that her actions would lead to the resurrection of the witch, who has lain dormant for over 300 years waiting for the day she would be released to once again unleash her powers on an unsuspecting world. Finding that modern weapons are useless and unable to control the witch, drastic action is considered by the government to try to stop her. Peggy and her partner, Matt Taylor, a historian at the local university and an expert in mythology, must work together to try to discover the truth behind what really happened during the witch trials. Only then can they find a way to stop the witch and avoid the catastrophic event being planned by the authorities. Their investigation leads them to shocking discoveries about the past, and the present, which will forever change the world as we know it and thrust them into a new life where they must fight to preserve and protect. Please note this title has been extensively re-edited and extended.

More About the Author

Greg first became interested in the paranormal when his parents took out a subscription for him in 1980 for a magazine entitled 'The Unexplained'. Since then he has read numerous books on the subject, visited many reported haunted sites and taken part in investigations.

His interest in all things paranormal led him to start to write short fiction. He has recently finished a book exploring less well known haunted locations based on personal experiences and is developing at least one of his short stories into a full length fictional novel.

Greg's recent Witch Hunter series is gathering pace and there is around 4 novelettes planned for the series, before the final novel to conclude the series. At that point it is possible the series will be continued or a planned prequel series will be launched.

As a keen explorer of historical buildings and sites, Greg has recorded numerous tales of hauntings and had several as yet unexplained experiences himself. Some of these have been complied into the book 'Scotland's Hidden Hauntings', a collection of less well known haunted locations in Scotland. He is currently working on a second real ghost story book.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. I was hooked from the start and couldn't stop reading. I enjoyed the mixture between the romance and the horror and enjoyed the historic info about the witch that was given throughout and couldn't wait to find out what she was searching for so just had to keep reading. All in all a great read and I can't wait til the next one!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good story, but rushed 30 Jan 2013

I liked the general theme of this story, but the whole thing was too rushed.

A witch from the 1600s has been resurrected, sort of, and she's continuing the search she began before she was burned to death. Everyone who gets in her way is in for serious trouble because she's a supernatural kind of witch (think hand flicks to kill, flame throwing palms, etc.) and she won't be slowed down. Eventually the government and military get involved and decide the only way to stop this witch chick is to nuke her. But, two civilians have figured out where the witch will be next and they set off to intercept her and hopefully prevent further injuries and a nuclear attack.

It was a good concept, but it just felt too rushed. I'm not sure if I'll read the second book. I personally didn't find it creepy it scary at all, but if you thought the show Charmed was scary, this would probably give you the creeps. It wasn't a bad read, and it went really quick, so I say give it a chance and see what you think.

5.0 out of 5 stars A scary, exciting thriller that kept us up the night we read it! 7 Dec 2012

My family likes scary things: haunted houses, scary stories, ghost tours, Halloween, creepy movies. But this book will send shivers up your spine - it certainly sent them up mine! It is not scary in the traditional sense but more creepy and thrilling - although there is definitely a good bit of horror in there that will keep you scared! The anticipation is very good and will keep you biting your lip waiting to see what will happen with Peggy and her namesake who is very, very creepy and a very, very good villain! I really liked the way the author wrote Peggy... smart, brave, clever. And I think the relationship that developed between Peggy and Matt was well written. I am very much looking forward to the next book in the series. My daughter is reading it now and she really loves it so far. An excellent mix of horror and suspense! Book Two: here we come!

4.0 out of 5 stars over all I liked it and would recomend it 10 Jun 2013

A 16th century Scottish witch has risen after more than 300 years. She seems to be searching for something and is ready to destroy everything that crosses her path.

There are a few spelling and grammatical errors, I won't lie, but the story is a great one and the next novelettes promise more excitement. I already put The Witch Hunter Series - Books 1 to 5. Extended Edition on my wish list

To Greg Stewart: Please do an edit on your books... they are really very good and you don't want them judged only on the errors...PLEASE...

I really love the way it ends. Victory isn't achieved by force or magic but by a mother's love empathy and compassion.
