So what do you do when you're nearing the end of a promotional cycle and there are monster gigs coming up with the likes of The Who and Aerosmith? There's no time to knock out a new album and you've already released a plethora of singles. Why, it must be 'Special Edition' time.

I hate special editions. Especially the ones that come out a couple of months after the initial release, that bung in a couple of tracks to try and milk the fans for all they've got. Even worse if they chuck in a DVD. But, hold hard. This one at least tries to provide yer actual value for money. Sure, they're still asking you to fork out for an album you've already got, even if it is one of the finest blues-rocking debuts in recent memory. But at least this comes with fifteen (count 'em), yes, fifteen tracks on the bonus CD.

Collecting together the B-sides from the single releases, acoustic tracks, three live tracks recorded in Tokyo and their cover of 'Sweet Emotion' by Aerosmith, there's five songs here that have never been released before. Not everything is essential but the slow blues of 'Doctor', the Thunder soundalike of 'Rock Bottom Blues' and the acoustic version of 'Into The Gutter' are fabulous. And the live material just makes you yearn for a full blown in concert album, especailly when you've seen them turn it on as many times as I have. But where's the smokin' hot live version of 'Preachin'?

It's still a pricy purchase for the real die hards who've bought everything with The Answers name on it, but first timers will find out just how fabulous the blues rocking Irish boys are, and the rest of you can treeat it as a catch all compilation. So, (nearly) everyone wins.

I'm a huge fan of these guys. I'm a guitarist who's listened to and played every riff and song and worn out every classic rock cd i have. It comes to a time when you really feel sad that there's no new Hendrix or Lad Zep out there. Nothing rocks like the rock music of the 70's. But then i discovered the Answer!!

Just seen these guys again last night and they were supporting The Who. They were equally as good and the songs are too. These guys would hold their own with Led Zep!

If you like your rock with a classic feel then buy this brilliant cd. The fact there's a second cd with bonus material is fantastic. The album Rise is a must for anyone's collection!!!!

The Answer is a band for all ages there reissue of their debut album is a nice neatly packaged 2 disc set of hard rocking tunes that is worthy of the bonus disk alone as it contains radio sessions and demo's of their best tracks including a few b sides and covers which in all the album is full of killer but no filler to keep me occupied and other fans of a band that is part of the second coming of classic rock!

i give this reissue 5/5 as it beats all the other reissues in terms of good muscianship and value for money

Yep it's rip off time again. A band gets a bit of interest, wins itself a big support slot where it can hopefully gain a whole new audience, so the record company steps in with an updated edition of an old album to hopefully reap the rewards, however, this time round it's not such a rip off. Last years Rise was a stonking debut album in the first place, containing some belting blues rock tunes and now with the 2cd Special Edition you are getting really good value for money, as it is still retailing for the same price as a single album which might well be the incentive for people who were unsure to splash the cash and pick it up.

On the bonus disc you don't get the umpteen different versions of the same track, the ropey old demo's or even the DJ Bellend remixed `Dance Classic', what you get is a nicely put together package that includes older tunes, singles, radio sessions, an acoustic number and a few live tracks from the bands recent trip to Japan. The live tracks especially show how this band has grown over this short period and have a whole new confidence about themselves, and rightly so. The Answer really deserve to carry on climbing the ladder to success, and if they carry on putting in great live performances and can repeat or better what they did with Rise on album number two, they will certainly be giving themselves every possible chance.

OK, I`ll keep it short: Even if you bought the original "Rise", this is well worth the extra cash, if only for the best track they`ve recorded yet, Keep Believing; The best 1970`s rock track not recorded in the 1970`s.

I have to say this band are so underrated. They remind me of Led Zepplin and well every song is quality. If you like Rock You wont be disappointed. Im seeing them live when i see Aerosmith and im sure they will do go. I say this is a must buy.

No, not a list of influences...a list of FANS! (OK and influences as well). Jimmy Page has reputed said that listening to The Answer is the closest thing you can get in the 21st century to listening to Led Zeppelin in the 1970s. I wasn't alive in the 1970s, but I certainly wouldn't disagree.
The sound (and the look) is similar to Led Zeppelin, but the energy of the band is what really stands out on this album. On the first listen I found myself thinking the nigh-on-heretical thought of "this band is like Led Zeppelin...but better!" While the music is obviously blues based, it has the fist-pumping energy (in spades!) that is required of more modern rock music and solid songcraft holding the awesome riffs and guitar solos together. While the songs are unlikely to touch you deeply and provoke tears, they evoke the feeling of driving fast on a motorway in a convertible sports car with the roof down - the feeling of the wind in your hair and boundless freedom in front of you. Personally, I prefer that in music, although there's a time and a place for tear-jerkers.
The album itself has been proclaimed as the rock debut of the decade, but you'd be a fool not to get the special edition for the same price.

Included on the bonus CD is 3 live tracks, a cover (of Aerosmith's Sweet Emotion), two accoustic versions and no less than 9 unreleased trakcs & B-sides. Essentially, CD2 is another album...for free! And the quality of very nearly as good as the album itself. The bonus and unreleased songs have a more accoustic, laid back feel, although there are still great rock songs such as "I won't let you down", but are more evenly balanced by blues such as "The Doctor" and accoustic-based songs like "Take it easy" (nothing to do with The Eagles!).
