Product Description

From New York Times bestselling author Michael Prescott comes RIPTIDE, a powerful new novel of psychological suspense.

Jennifer Silence reads between the lines. A psycholinguistic analyst, she studies documents written by murderers, teasing out hidden clues. But nothing in her life has prepared her for the document that is now in her hands. A leather-bound diary from a crumbling crypt.

The diary of Jack the Ripper.

If it is genuine, it suggests a troubling connection between Jennifer's family and history's most infamous serial killer. A connection that may explain her father's suicide ... and her brother's mental illness. A connection that may implicate her brother in a new rash of killings, and prove that the Ripper's spirit still prowls dark streets and alleys, taking lives ...

And the next victim may be Jennifer herself.

RIPTIDE is the newest thriller from Michael Prescott, whose novels have been hailed as "brilliant ... chilling ... unrelentingly suspenseful" (Publishers Weekly), "harrowing ... intense" (Jeffery Deaver), "irresistible, un-put-downable" (Crescent Blues), and "stunning ... far above the usual offerings for the genre" (New Mystery Reader).

I think that this is a shameless use of the well known Jack the Ripper story to sell a slow-paced novel with very 2-dimensional characters. I was left feeling cheated of a few hours of my time (and life is short!). Unfortunately not one I would recommend!

A little contrived 26 Aug 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was the third consecutive Michael Prescott book I read and IMO it didn't match the others because the story was a bit too contrived, trying (quite succesfully) to make a link between London's Jack the Ripper of the 1800s and modern day America. Have Jack's decendents carried the 'ripper' gene with them?

Prescott is a master of suspense and I found that lacking here, maybe the problem was that his misdirection was so well done that it seemed obvious who the killer was (it wasn't but the twist came too late).

This is not a bad entertainment, but the Ripper stuff didn't engage me. However I'm now on my fourth Prescott (Blind Pursuit) and that's a cracker!

The unconscious, she learned, was wiser than the conscious mind. It expressed truths that conscious thought tried to hide, truths that emerged as coded messages, a series of red flags. "e;
